“Delightful Stay in Charming Location”
Reviewed 26 February 2012

We just spent 3 delightful days at the Coconut Palm Inn. Large room with screened in patio facing the palm trees and Bay. Private beach, dock, kayaking and barbecues. Very quiet with peaceful pool area. The kind of place you go for a night and stay a week.
The staff was helpful and was able to extend our stay. Wonderful restaurant recommendations. We ate lunch at the Tasters nearby 3 days in a row.
I will definitely go back. For kids or big people.

Had a fabulous stay here just after new year and were upgraded to a 1 bedroom appartment on the first floor. So quiet and peaceful we could have stayed forever. Lots of wonderful local advice on great places to eat within walking distance that really made our stay.

In short-we were eagerly awaiting our Florida Key's vacation. Then we were eagerly waiting to end our Florida Key's vacation.

We arrived after a call telling us that our room we were sharing with our friends had a leak and we would be moved to two rooms instead. This was a nice gesture by management. Our friends checked in later and their room had a really saggy, old mattress. They did switch this over to a new one upon request. Also great customer service. We did enjoy the paddle boards and kayaks when the weather was good enough to use them. However, this is where my positives of this place end.

What you can't see from the photos is that this place is in a residential neighborhood. It's "interesting" at best. I heard the neighbors dog barking constantly across the street. People are also constantly in and out of the boat slip that is connected to the property. Not very relaxing noises.

When we checked in we had room #11, and our friends had #12. #11 is very dark. It had a musty/damp smell. I didn't find everything as clean as other reviewers mentioned. Maybe I just have high standards. But dust hanging from the popcorn ceilings isn't "clean" to me. The tile is also dirty looking. Their were large chips missing from the walls in our friend's room. In room #11, the bathroom was so dark. No light in the shower or window. Felt like showering in a cave.

We intended to do lots of our own cooking on this trip and when we examined the cooking implements, every single non-stick pan was chipped, scratched or otherwise beat to heck. Their also was no cutting board of any kind to use. This really irks me since a dollar store cutting board would do the trick-I am sure they could afford this upgrade for the very few rooms that have full kitchens. I think most everyone knows cooking on scratched, peeling, dented non-stick cookware is not safe. You shouldn't be eating flakes of teflon in your food. We had to ask for new pots and pans and were given a few that were marginally better than the original ones in our room.

It rained for most of our stay and we found two roaches in our friends room. The owner said this always happens when it rains and that they come up through the drains but still, it's just gross. They were not small, tiny roaches either.

The breakfast was not good. Muffins, pastries (not the good kind-the crappy, junky kind you get out of a box) and instant oatmeal. It went out at 8 and was always promptly removed at 10. At least leave out the coffee, etc till 11:30 for guests to enjoy.

Our room being next to the office was really loud when they would start their day around 7:30 a.m. every morning, not to mention how loud the rooms are in general. We could hear every footstep above us. So annoying and not relaxing in any sense of the imagination to hear people stomping above you at all hours of the day or night.

On the second to last day of our trip, we were trying to relax on our veranda and found it near impossible as their was a constant flow of workers talking and roaming about in front of our room. The owner and manager even dragged some chairs onto our porch and started re-arranging the furniture. It was really rude in my opinion.

We needed to keep up with work while on this trip and the WiFi was also a joke. It never stayed on long enough for us to get our work done. It was always in and out. The cable t.v. also went out a few times during our 5 day trip.

The pool was tiny and the "beach" also incredibly small. We should have known this from the reviews.

Bottom line-I would be happy enough for a night here, but don't expect to come here for 5 days and relax. It's just to small and not accommodating for this. There is also not a ton to do in Key Largo. We were all puzzled as to why people rate this place so glowingly. Really surprized. Def. not a "little slice of paradise" for us.

Room Tip: If you do decide to stay here, do NOT book a bottom room-get one on the top floor above the offices.
