Description: Going ten years strong with a menu designed to make mouths water and a location that embodies Gainesville's Downtown area, Big Lou's NY Style Pizzeria comes from humble beginnings. As many local start-ups do, Lou's developed into the reputable pizza spot it is today through a patient process. Lou Wynn, or "Big Lou" himself, is originally from South Florida but was no stranger to Gainesville. Graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in Health Science, Lou eventually decided to pursue the food industry. He was so inspired to build up his own restaurant (with the help of his supportive wife, Mary) that he was willing to do whatever it took to make it work - and even went as far as selling his car to pay for the original costs. Biking to work for the first few months of business is a whole new level of dedication... Nearly one decade and thousands of pizzas later, Lou's is constantly growing (currently under renovation!) While staying true to its warm and welcoming hometown roots. With a close group of team members, fun atmosphere and fresh ingredients that make our variety of menu items so satisfying, we promise any Lou's experience to leave you happy, full, and excited to come back again.

This place appears to be one of those indoor/outdoor college kids restaurants. And it is!
The server was particularly friendly, we offered her a seat to join us, and she did. But only as long as it took take our orders, to answer a few questions about the Gainesville sites.
The food arrived, fresh, on time, and absolutely more than what we expected: Giant salad, huge piece of sliced pizza, and a delicious sausage hoagie.
If it's a pleasant day - eat outside and watch the folks on bikes, walking by, and just hanging out.

Excellent pizzas, including custom options. They tend to be rather busy, but the service has been uniformly prompt and friendly. Probably our favorite downtown pizza choice.

We loved the Bi Lou's specialty pizza! The prosciutto and ricotta were really great! We also loved the garlic knots that came with our Greek salad. The food was very good and we would visit again for that reason. However, the service was very "lack-luster." And we noticed other tables around us struggling with service as well.

We frequently stop in after going to plays at the Hippodrome, a state funded theatre just around the corner. My wife and I each get a large slice of their thin crust pizza and split a house salad which is loaded with goodies and comes with delicious garlic rolls. The restaurant has a large area of outdoor seating which is popular most of the year. There's a bar when you first enter the restaurant where we sometimes sit when the dining area's a bit too noisy with enthusiastic customers. The atmosphere's a plus and the waitresses are courteous and friendly. What really standsout is the unique flavor and fluffy and crispy texture of their thin pizza crust. But given its thinness, it really should be eaten piping hot and fresh right out of the oven otherwise it loses alot of the magic.

This has always been my favorite NY/NJ pizza place, and I am not sure what happened last night. The waitress was miserable (not sure she even smiled once) which is so unusual, and the food took over 30 minutes on a Sunday night. Pizza was good flavor-wise, but the amount of crust that did not have cheese/sauce was too much. My favorite salad wasn't the same as they ran out of spring mix (really? couldn't go to Publix?) and substituted large spinach leaves instead with the long stems. Garlic rolls seem smaller, too. Hope it changes back...
