“Clean and spacious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2012

Six adults and one child stayed in the 3 bedroom gulf view room. It was exactly like the pictures from Gullwing's website. The condo is very spacious and we were able to save money and eat a lot of meals in the room. We had a partial view of the beach and enjoyed sitting on the porch and eating and relaxing.

The master bedroom has a king bed, while the two other bedrooms have queen beds and the couch pulls out to a queen bed. Flat screen TV in the living room and master bedroom and smaller TVs in the other two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi tub, shower and two sinks.

The kitchen is spacious and has a nice fridge and all the dishes, pots, pans, coffeemaker, microwave, toaster, etc., that you'd need.

The dining room seats six and there's a bar area with four chairs and a kitchen counter area with three chairs, so obviously lots of seating for everyone.

The pool is on the small side but it does the job. There are about six Weber electric grills for anyone to use and lots of tables that have umbrellas for you to get some shade.

The beach is very wide so it's a decent walk to get to the water. The sand is nice and fine. You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas. The room had six beach towels that you could use.

Small amount of bath soap, shampoo, conditioner, laundry detergent, dishwashing soap, paper towels provided. They also have luggage carts that will make carrying your bags to the room much easier. When we checked in the carts were hard to come by because quite a few people were checking in at that time.

We had done quite a bit of research and this was one of the few resorts that would allow 7 people in one room. However, it was also my first pick based on reviews from previous travelers and everyone in my party was very happy with it. As I said before, clean and spacious!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 801, which is near the elevator. The noise from the elevator was a tad noisy at ti...

My husband and I stayed at the Gullwing from 5/3-5/5 for our 10 year anniversary. This place is beautiful!!! We checked in earlier than 3pm but it was no problem. Our room was ready and even better we were upgraded to a 6th floor ocean front room which was an absolutely fabulous! The condo was huge and the view was spectacular. We couldn't have asked for a better condo. It was super clean and had everything that we needed for our stay. The beach was great. The sand was white and felt like baby powder. The pelicans were very entertaining! There are some great restaurants just a short drive away. A few recommendations: Breakfast - Tuckaway Bagel and Wafel Cafe. The wafel is so delicious and the bagel breakfast sandwiches are the best I've ever had. There is a nice variety. This place is a must!! Dinner - Doc Ford's Rum Bar. Great food, live music and is on the bay. The food is fantastic! Can't say enough about it. There are two other restaurants next to Doc Fords which all had bars so it's a nice area to bar hop :-) Dessert - Love Boat Home Made Ice Cream. All I can say is YUM!!!! This place has a hundred flavors and they make the most amazing sundae's. It should be illegal. Definitely check this place out for your sweet tooth. All in all we had a wonderful stay!!

Room Tip: Ocean front is the way to go. Ask for an upgrade.

My wife, sister and I stayed at the Gullwing Resort & Spa in Fort Myers Beach in early May, 2012. This resort is wonderful in just about every way.

We checked in at 9:30 p.m., thankfully, because the front desk closes at 10:00. Chelsea was very helpful and informed us that the two-bedroom unit we had booked through SniqueAway – at a very good off-season rate – was a “bayview,” which meant it faced away from the ocean. But for an extra $50 a night we could have a three-bedroom unit overlooking the pool and beach. She let us take a look, and it took just a few seconds to decide to take it. The view is spectacular and the second-floor unit was convenient to the pool and the boardwalk that goes to the beach.

In this section of Fort Myers Beach, the beautiful soft white sand – by my best estimation – is an expansive 500 feet wide. While that makes it a little hike to the Gulf of Mexico water, it’s about the nicest walk you could ask for. At the time we were there, we had a full moon – in fact it was a “super moon” – and the moonlight shining off of the white sand at night was amazing!

Back to the unit itself. it is modern, comfortable and very spacious, with a nice kitchen area (full refrigerator, oven, stove, microwave), an eating bar and a off to the side a real bar (which we mostly used for our computer and other electronics). The unit comes with wi-fi, which we made a lot of use of, with two iPads and a laptop. (I spent a lot of relaxed time on the lanai and by the pool updating my website, www.beachmaniac.com.)

The lanai is about 20 feet wide by 10 feet deep and comes with a nice patio table and chairs. The master bedroom is very large, also has an ocean view and includes a walk-in close, whirlpool tub and shower and two sinks with lots of counter space and cabinets and drawers. The beds are very comfortable, and the master bedroom is nicely separated from the other two rooms.
Unfortunately, May (and apparently all summer) is sea turtle season on the beach so the resort shuts off the pool lights at night and you can’t use the pool or hot tub after dusk.

For what likely is a million-dollar condo, the one surprising downside is fairly thin walls. Our bedroom bumps up against the bedroom next door and the muffled sounds of a TV, snoring – and, yes, other things that go on in bedrooms – were just loud enough to disturb a light sleeper at times. No big deal for us, though. Likewise the sounds of people walking in the unit above us were sometimes noticed in the living area at night.

In the overall scheme of things, however, those were minor distractions. Waking up to the beautiful expansive white sand beach leading up the Gulf of Mexico on a sunny, warm morning more than makes up for these minor inconveniences. One afternoon, we came across some manatees about 50 feet from shore, and after I walked out into chest-high water, one of them actually playfully swam right underneath me, bumping the side of my right leg and knocking my left leg right out from under me. I even blogged about this amazing experience at BeachManiac.com.

One other note: The Holiday Inn is just a short beach walk away and has a very nice outdoor bar and eating area that is open to the public. It’s a great place for an outdoor lunch on a nice day. (Although it was pretty loud and hectic during band-time on Sunday evening.)

This condo style hotel was exactly what we hoped it would be. We booked the two bedroom model. It was clean, well appointed, and spacious. The room looked just like the picture on the Gullwing website......that's not always the case. The room does not have a view of the Gulf but the way that the screened-in balcony protrudes from the building allows a very nice view of the beach and gulf from the balcony. Our condo on the south side of the building was great for breakfast and "moon" watching. You can also see the bay from the balcony. The south side of the building is marginally noisier that the north due to its proximity to the neighboring resorts pool and water fountains. But the south side does get morning sun (at least it does in May).

The location of the Gullwing, just south of Fort Myers beach was great. Ft Myers Beach reminded us of the Jersey shore. Once you're out of that area it is much better. There is a grocery store just north of the Gullwing and various shoppes and restaurants just south of the Gullwing.

The kitchen is fully appointed with full size appliances and dishes, glasses, cooking utensils, etc. There is also a start up quantity of coffee, paper towels, soaps, etc. There is a washer/dryer. Lots of towels are provided including beach towels. There are no beach chairs or umbrellas included.

Check in was quick and easy. The desk called about an hour after check in to make sure that we had everything we needed. We mentioned that the bathroom faucet (in the bathroom we didn't even intend to use) wouldn't turn completely off. It seemed like I hadn't even hung up the phone and they were there to fix the leak. I would highly recommend the Gullwing if you like your privacy in a spacious, comfortable home away from home. We'll certainly return.
