This little place is tucked inside such a neat location. Next to the gorgeous Riverside Hotel. We were only able to tour the grounds due to time constraints but so glad we did. Felt like you stepped back into time after crossing the gates. Wish we could have toured the home. Plan ahead and see it. They have scheduled tour times.

I love old homes, so it was no surprise that I wanted to see one of the oldest in South Florida, the Stranahan House. Our docent was Tom and he was terrific! As the title of this review notes, "even my husband enjoyed this tour." I had no idea that this singular home included such a fascinating history. Thanks to all the volunteers who made this such a memorable visit.

The home and its history are fascinating. The staff is very professional and friendly. While we didn't see any ghosts, the stories were fun and dramatic. It is definitely worth going out of your way to visit around Halloween when the staff and volunteers dress up and show off the ghost stories.

Nancy Greig was our tour guide and she was truly amazing and passionate about what she does. The way she explains history really takes you back in time and paints a picture in your mind of all of the historical events that happened at the Stranaham House. I’m a huge history aficionado and I love to visit historical landmarks and to visit the oldest standing building in Broward county was a great experience. The house is immaculate and the decor inside the house really takes you back in time. What I liked most was the story of Mrs. Stranaham and how forward thinking she was and how much she did for Ft. Lauderdale and the people in it including Native Americans, for years to come. This house is nestled right in downtown Ft. Lauderdale right by the river and after the tour you can catch a water taxi and continue exploring. I’m glad that this landmark of history is still standing and not lost to modern development.

Not huge but worth a look, If you wonder what it was like when Fort Lauderdale was far from a town this is the place to go.
