Having lived in southern France, we had high hopes of tasting again the wonderful flavors of country French food. We were absolutely delighted to find Le Provencal on the Miracle Mile. A beautiful, clean-lined interior, with tables that are not so close together to allow for a relaxed and intimate meal, and tables outside to enjoy the breezes, greeted us for our dinner.
We had delicious crisp rose, and opened with a Salade Lyonnaise, which was a great alternative to the usual Caesar - and thankfully not overdressed. Our main courses were the equivalent of New York strip steak with a poivre vert sauce, and the breast of duck (they included the leg too), sliced thin with a slightly spicy / peppery orange sauce which was a rich brown with a hint of orange as the acid. Both were PERFECTLY cooked, but the chef that knows his / her way around sauces is truly a French chef, and this was the case.
We ordered the Souffle with Grand Marnier for dessert, accompanied by a glass of bubbly, concluding a great meal that we found (coming from the west coast) to be a great value as well.
Marc was genial, welcoming, and attentive. We will be back, and we will send friends. I am looking forward to trying more of the menu!

Le Provencal in the Gables is under new ownership, with a complete make-over and new menu. To recap, the old Le Provencal was exactly that – old. It was pretty good, but over time its customer base was eroding. So the old owners revamped the menu – not for the better, I’m afraid, which hastened the restaurant’s demise. New ownership has come in and remodeled the layout and the menu, with new chef and staff. Unfortunately the new owners kept the old name, thinking it had value. To the contrary, the old customer base has given up on the old owners, and the old name is a disservice to the new restaurant. This place is much improved with its new menu and chef, and the new owners would benefit from a new. When I was there recently, the sidewalk tables were bustling, but the inside was almost empty. I hope diners rediscover Le Provencal because for the first time in a year, it’s good again.

We love french cuisine so I took my wife to this restaurant for our anniversary. We were not disappointed one bit. The terrine and pate platter is EXCELLENT. The duck and scallops were cooked to perfection. For dessert ask in advance for the souffle because it is an absolute delight.
It is has been added to our frequently visited restaurants list :-D

Lunched there some time ago under new ownership, it was a great let down. Thought I would give them another try, but tried several times to lunch and found the place closed up with tables stacked on top of each other...??? Have they ceased business...???
