Get a reservation - sometimes days in advance so that you can be sure to get a table here. There is a reason - everything is so good.

The service was excellent - on par with a great establishment.

The food was outstanding - what you'd expect for these prices.

The music was fun - an added bonus.

We will be sure to go again!

First time to Slates after numerous recommendations and we were not disappointed. Arrived 15 minutes prior to our 7:30 pm reservation and were shown to the small, intimate Jazz Bar. We were glad we arrived early because the 3 piece Blues Band was a special treat. The bar is by no means large, searing maybe 35 or 40 people but it was a very nice venue, not too loud to overshadow your conversations and still enjoy the excellent music. The drink prices were very reasonable.
After a short wait we were escorted to our table for two in the front dining room and greated by our waiter. The wife had the Jambalaya and I started with the Gumbo followed by the Seafood Pasta. Everything was well presented and extremely well prepared. The Seafood Pasta was stocked full of seafood and a very generous pottion. The Jambalaya had just the right amount of spice, not too overpowering, and well received. We both took home enough extras too enjoy lunch the following day. Excellent and friendly staff showed attention to our needs and the overall service was excellent. We wiil return both for the food and the music!

We had dinner here Friday night. Our reservation was for 7:30 but we went early to enjoy the jazz bar/ blues club (depends on who's playing) attached to the restaurant. What a treat. This is a great destination in and of itself. The setting is intimate and the music was hot.
Hung out there about a half hour and then on to the dinner table.
The restaurant part is divided into two rooms. We were seated in the first room which has an attractive U shaped bar with stools where you can eat if you want. We had a table for two, however.
The menu is varied, but the gist of the menu is a Cajun flair with a New Orleans feeling. They had Jambalaya, Gumbo, Shrimp etoufee and other items more likely found on a menu in New Orleans. If you don't care for the spicy stuff, they have prime steaks, chicken dishes, fresh fish, pasta etc.
The flooring is a slate colored concrete and your name, if you made a reservation, is on a slate on your assigned table. The tables are covered with white tablecloths and the ambiance makes you feel that you are having a special night out.

A group of friends have been vacationing near the Ft. Myers Beach the past 7-8 years. We’ve been in Cape Coral the last 3 years. We were introduced to Slates two years ago. We went because my sister and I each had a friend who played in a jazz group there.
Well, anyway, Slates had some of the best New Orleans food. It is also a Steakhouse. View their menu. It is a white tablecloth restaurant and is not outrageously expensive. The service is wonderful, very attentive. I had the special which was flounder stuffed with crab. It came with potatoes and vegetables. My sister had had the shrimp and grits- delicious. The portions were just right. Everyone was pleased with the meal. Afterwards we walked to the next room where the band and singers for the weekend did a variety of music. We had dessert in the lounge. Everyone chose pecan pie which was out of this world. I was not fond of the salted caramel ice cream. It just didn’t taste good to me, but that was a small thing compared to the rest of the evening..
