This was a really fun place to eat lunch and dinner. The serving staff are in colonial garb and much of the food is English inspired. The portions were large and required a take out box. The meatloaf was reported as excellent. I enjoyed my fish and chips which reminded me of my Aunt Annie's recipe. The pot roast was also reported as delicious as was the chicken pot pie. It's a small restaurant and has that old colonial tavern feel. That being said if you don't like close quarters; this may not be the place for you. However, if you want a interesting dining experience, you will love this restaurant.

You might think that you have been transported back in time. The three hundred year old building that Jessop’s Tavern is located in has been allowed to remain in it’s time period. A nice touch is that the servers are also in period clothing. Pewter plates are used to serve the food, another nice touch. We stopped for lunch and found the menu did not overwhelm us, but still gave us many choices. The beer selection is un-paralleled. Another plus, there are no TVs

There is a Tripadvisor 'cetificate of excellence' on the front door...it must be an outdated sticker.
On the menu the fish and chips are rated 'best in Delaware" by a Delaware magazine...Ahhhh...far from it.
The fish and chips was served luke warm. The two small pieces were dry and not flakey like so many other places that serve fish and chips. The batter was lite and overall the whole meal had little taste At $17...I expected a lot more
My wife had the crab cakes for $24. The two medium sized cakes were of shredded crab...sweet...but lacking any distinction. Also, a request to substitute a small side salad instead of a vegetable choice cost $2 extra.
Skip Jessup's Tavern... for the food at least.
