Elizabeth Park is beautiful on its own and the Pond House is a jewel in its midst. Biggest complaint was the length of time it took for us to be acknowledged and seated. After that it was up hill. Being given a tablet instead of the standard menu allowed us to view starters, lunch specials, entrees, salads, and sandwiches immediately. There were many choices, each with unique ingredients and touches. We were very pleased with the food. Room and porch were a little on the noisy side but quieted down after 1 o’clock. Reservations would be helpful even for lunch.

I would go back in a minute if I didn't live so far away! My review is not the length requested. At the moment I have a lot on my plate!

Dinner was overall a Substandard. 5 in our group and every meal was a problem. 2 ordered salmon specifically “cooked through”. They got sushi. The meals were sent back and returned 25 minutes later just as the rest of us had finished our meals. The crab cakes were filler only and as far as any of us could tell, completely uncontminated with crab. Perhaps if they were just labeled as stuffing cakes we would have been less disappointed. At least the seasoning was good. Hard to find a reason to give this place another try.

Set in beautiful Elizabeth Park this restaurant is a go to spot for us. A huge bonus is that you can bring your own wine.

My husband and I had lunch at the Pond House Café in West Hartford, Connecticut on Saturday, August 25 2018.

As always, the food was high quality, nicely prepared and delicious. The portions were also quite generous. My husband had the Open Steak Sandwich and Lentil Soup which he really enjoyed. I had the Mom’s Meatloaf, which I thought was quite good.

The overall service was very good with both our hostess and waitress being very friendly, polite and attentive. However, it was quite busy and we had to wait between 10 -15 minutes before being seated at a table, even with a reservation for 1:15 PM. But, once we were seated and ordered, our food came quite quickly. I think this restaurant gets busy during Saturday lunch. So you may have to find a time when it is not too busy if you don’t want to have to wait to be seated. A late lunch or early dinner has been a better time for us.

The atmosphere at the restaurant was very relaxing with nice comfortable seating.

There was also free parking, but we were not able to find a space on the street in front/side of the restaurant or in the parking lot. I believe something was going on at the banquet hall. We were able to find a spot in a parking area in Elizabeth Park. So we had to walk a bit but it was a very nice day for a walk and the Elizabeth Park grounds are very scenic and well maintained.

We have enjoyed many meals at the Pond House for both lunch and dinner, including such entrees as braised short ribs, Osso Bucco, meatloaf (prepared different ways), salmon, the Pond House burger with fries, crab crest salad, their house salad as well as mac and cheese. The Pond House is a great restaurant with a nice variety of different type of entrees, even gluten-free items.

We highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to going back again. We like going for a late lunch (at 4:00 PM) or an early dinner (at 5:00 PM) in order to avoid the traffic getting there and the busy times at the restaurant. These times have been great, both nice and relaxing for us!!
