“Carried Back in Time”
Reviewed 3 March 2012

This place of Connecticut history was a wonderful look back in time. Visiting with someone who lives in Stonington, I'd heard some of the local history, but the museum took what I'd learned to a higher level of understanding.
It is self-guided, with a staff member present to ask questions if needed. There are so many things to look at and the back "yard" takes you down to water's edge.

“Don't miss the Historical Walking Tour on Sundays at 2pm!”
Reviewed 19 September 2011

Fantastic historical walking tour of Stonington Borough that meets at the Lighthouse! Liz, our tour guide was great! Lots of information that she passed on with clarity and enthusiasm! It lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes and was $7. Well worth your time.

“What a Little Gem!”
Reviewed 24 August 2011

Gorgeous little museum with optional trip to the top of the lighthouse if you're up for a little adventure - it's worth it for the view. This museum is chock full of interesting artefacts, paintings and information and should not be missed! I'm a temporary visitor here and went with friends over from the UK and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Easy to find - leave the 95 at J91 and follow the signs for Stonington Borough then head right the way through the village to the point, where there's free parking - perfect! If you're visiting Mystic then you can come along Route 1 - again follow the signs.

There is an entrance fee - I asked why it's not free and apparently it's not a publicly funded museum so the admission goes to the maintenance and running of the building but this also gives you admission to the Captain Nathaniel Palmer House - also in Stonington village - so you're supporting a National Historic Building and an old lighthouse. Palmer House gives you a fascinating insight into the life of a young sea captain's amazing discovery and his family life. The lighthouse is self-guided but we could ask questions from the staff member there who was most helpful and certainly didn't follow us around! Palmer House staff guide you on a most informative, interesting and free tour so that we really got the most out of our visit.

The Borough is a lovely slice of history with beautiful architecture, places to eat and sea views all around - delightful. Don't miss it!

“Great side trip for a few hours”
Reviewed 22 August 2011

The lighthouse museum and nearby park area are a great side-trip. You can easily spend a few hours watching the water or searching for wildlife amongst the rocks on the nearby point before or after seeing the lighthouse museum.
