“I wish there wasn't a 'but'”

It was great. A relaxing, beautiful, comfortable building and grounds. Friendly, helpful and pleasant staff. The photos tell the story. It's a great place to stay - at least it was in July when it was cool. Even though it rained a lot, it was warm and not too many mozzies.

BUT, because our house backed on to the driveway, and because there is no glass in the windows, when new visitors arrived at 2 am it was a problem. Car doors slammed, loud thanks and farewells were exchanged and then the 'settling in' began in the house - also without glass windows- next door.

By 3:30 am when all was quiet again and our new neighbours were apparently ensconced in blissful slumber in paradise, we had resigned ourselves to not returning to sleep.

Check in should not be at 2 am in my opinion. When we arrived at 10 pm from Sydney to Denpasar 3 nights previously we stayed the night near the airport. Just saying ...

“Great place to chill out and relax!”
Reviewed 18 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

We loved our two weeks at Chai House. A 'sweet' place to call home whilst exploring the verdant surrounds and just relaxing, making art and sharing. The staff are gorgeous, the pool and garden a pleasure and the house was ideal for hanging out as a small group (4 of us.) It's kind of like a great 'picnic' house (to quote a few locals!) It's a combination of glamorous camping and five star spoiling! Perfect for our taste.
The staff cooked dinners for us a few times, but the self contained set up - made it easy to take care of meals yourselves. Take loads of mozzy stuff and a few extra towels.... and don't forget to feed the fish!

“Wonderful place to stay by the rice fields!”

We absolutely loved Chai House! Such a gorgeous little Balinese-style wooden house, full of character with comfortable beds, spacious feel and lots of seating/dining areas, plus open air bathrooms – showering under a beautiful Ubud sky surrounded by bamboo and coconut trees, unforgettable experience!! The pool is really nice and it was so relaxing/serene swimming right next to the rice fields, especially in the early evening before sunset. We saw local children and villagers passing by through the rice fields; such a unique and authentic feel being so close to traditional village life. Putu the driver was great, he was waiting for us at the airport with a big smile and took us on an adventurous day trip (he will tailor to what you like to do); we also rented a motorbike from the T House staff and drove into Ubud town (very busy!) which was 10 minutes’ drive away. If you enjoy being close to nature and seeing the real Bali, I would highly recommend a stay at Chai House. Thanks Gerry!

Negatives: Breakfast was a bit on the small side, recommend to ask for more toast! or buy extras (ham, sausages, etc.) from the local supermarket to keep in the fridge and ask the staff to cook. Coco Supermarket is open until 11pm and has everything you could need!
