Kitchen Zinc is down an alley off of Chapel St, right behind the more upscale Zinc. We sat on their outdoor patio which is a very pleasant environment. They have some canopies to protect you from sun and/or rain, which was also nice. We were looking for mid-afternoon drinks and appetizers and this was a perfect place for it. Nice craft beer list and delicious food. Friendly, attentive but unhurried service too.

Where? Just behind Zinc. Walk down an alley and look up to the interesting art.

Who? Nine people -- sitting outside on a spring night. Nine people -- omnivores, vegetarians, people with allergies. Nine people -- all delighted.

Two kale caesar salads. Olives. White bean salad. Taleggio cheese. Olives. And that was just to start.

Delicious portobello, broccoli rabe, and blanco pizzas. "Interesting" loaded baked potato pizza. And the most magical, most outstanding of them all: salmon gravlax pizza.

And then, just to cap off the meal, a nutella & strawberry pizza for dessert.

The only negative: hardly any leftovers.

Kitchen Zinc should be on your list of New Haven Pizza spots to try. The menu offers a wide range of pizza options from your standard cheese to an artisan fig pizza. Kitchen Zinc also has one of my favorite appetizers around... the Spicy Sopressata with Fresh Ricotta (I usually order two!). In addition to the great food, the atmosphere is perfect and the beer selection is great. They also have one of the best patios for outdoor dining, which is great with a slice of pizza and ice cold beer. This is definitely a great place for a casual night out and I highly recommend trying Kitchen Zinc.

Kitchen Zinc is a modern-style pizzeria, so not in the classic New Haven style but offering a slightly thicker, chewy crust and toppings more likely to include goat cheese and caramelized onions than clams or native tomatoes (apologies to the ghost of Frank Pepe). It does its thing well. There are also small appetizers (“cicchetti”) - think tapas - and a small but good list of mid-price wines and craft beers. It’s casual, pleasant and - three visits on - consistent.
