Marketplace is where we bring guests visiting from out of town, to show what Guilford is like. Marketplace is where we go on our own to treat ourselves. We love the atmosphere (bit of a history nerd- love the location on the historic green, the old building, love the original tiles on the walls), we love the food, we love the hot cocoa, we love everything about it. The meat counter has a great selection of meat that is comparably priced and fresher looking than most supermarkets. Most individual items are pretty reasonably priced.

It seems most peoples complaints have to do with the some-times-laid-back attitude of some of the staff, and the confusion about where to order things and where to pay for things. It was a little overwhelming our first time too- we've grown to love that atmosphere- to us it shows that the people seem to like working there. Everyone is nice and will help you if you can't figure it out. Just go with the flow. Remember that even though they're right next to each other, there are separate lines for sandwiches and salads. And if there is no one at the back register, then just go pay at the front where there is always a cashier. Good now you can't go wrong.

Our most common purchases are the HUGE handmade salads--- great variety of greens, proteins, toppings and dressing to choose from. For breakfast we live and breathe by the bacon egg and cheese on a bagel or roll--- you will never want to eat a fast food one again. Recently we started exploring the sandwiches more-- Just got the East Guilford--- never had such a good sandwich. The challenge from here becomes deciding whether to keep getting the same things that are amazing or keep trying new things. I'd say half the time we eat in the store, half the time we get to-go for later. We try to stop in at least once a month.

New Year's Day, thinking hubby and I would grab a sandwich and head to the marina and eat on a cold winters day. Looked up sandwich places, this one sounded good. Impressive place, lots to eat. Many people eating and drinking...had high hopes! Get our sandwiches on hard rolls, head back to car, get to marina and open our goodies. I ordered a ham and cheese on a roll, WITH...lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Hubby ordered salami and cheese on a roll, WITH lettuce, tomato, and oil. Unfortunately, there was no lettuce, tomato and mayo or oil on either one. How could that happen? I watched the gentleman write the order! Not a good way to start the new year! Seems someone was pre-occupied. Word to the wise....If your craving something, check your order before you leave.

Aways busy, salad, sandwiches are just amazing, they are quick, great variety and very friendly. We ate here everyday for a week straight and everything is super fresh. Weekends they are a bit too busy to find seating but the atmosphere is comfortable.

Soup, salad, sandwich, specialty items... they're all here and delicious. Today's mushroom soup was wonderful. We each had a soup and split a BLT and had too much to eat. We understand that everything is made right there. A bit noisy, but the decor is fun and the food is worth the stop.

Have visited here several times. Today I met a friend visiting from out-of-town for lunch. The food was delicious, the iced coffee superb. My only disappointment continues to be the disorganization with the various spots to order items then trying to pay for food, drinks, etc. at which counter? Also, at certain times of the day the staff is either really on top of everything or too involved in their personal conversations to ring you out at the register!
