Description: Cute little eatery with lots of interesting food choices. We serve organic and farm fresh meals that are creative and nourishing to the soul! Kid love the kids meals and we cater to vegetarians-vegans. We go to the regional market ourselves to insure the products are the fresh and straight from the farm. We have an extensive black board that features and describes healing teas that change with each season. Each season we offer a class on Energetics of Food based on Traditional Chinese Medicine that will forever change the way you look at each meal! Once a month we do a dinner for charity. 100% of the funds go to do clean potable water projects around the world and Hedy (the owner) travels to many of these locations with Rotary clubs. If you are looking for decadent sweets our Cinnamon bun French toast or stuffed pancakes are amazing! We would love to cook for you so I hope you will stop by on your next travels! Peace and happy eating!

It was getting late in the afternoon on my wife's and my two-night stay in the southeastern part of Connecticut and, by now, our stomachs were aching for lunch.

Here we were in the small town of Deep River and looking for a place to stop and fill up. Well, we found it--The Whistle Stop. One word on the sign had us from hello--"unique." And how!

In we went and our server/chef, Jordan, was soon to close. But, she told us to take a seat and not to worry.

This place is tiny, seats about 20, with a few more at the picnic tables out back.

"Want some tea?" Jordan asked. "We've got all sorts of tea, including Sweet Peach Tea!" Yeah, we'll have some of that! Plus, they also have an assortment of healing teas, including ginger honey lemon.

As for lunch, itself, my wife ordered a hamburger with lettuce, tomatoes, relish and mustard, along with a side salad. "It was excellent," my wife stated.

And I had the Super Chicken Sandwich wrapped in a bagel with bacon, melted swiss cheese, tomato, honey mustard and a side salad, to boot.

WOW! Fabulicious!!!

Oh, one other thing unique about this place--the unisex restroom. Go out the back door, take a right, then curve around to the right, go up a couple of stairs and there it is. Nice and clean. With seashells and small ocean rocks in the SINK. Very cool!

So, all in all, everything was delicious! Jordan was a peach. And so was the tea!

Thank Ron8

I came all the way back to connecticut from Italy just to eat breakfast here. I love Heddy, I love the Whistlestop, the food atmosphere, ambiance, location, experience; all are unbelievable. Come with cash or you may be harmed. The omlettes are on point and worth traveling across a planet to experience. What some people confuse for antagonism or impatience is really care for the intricacies of the preparation of the thing, the product. It is care for the end result, which is your foody-orgasm as you explode in rivulettes of joy eating these food/art/love bits of everything that encompasses everything, and is in and around and throughout everything. Eat here with an open heart experiencing the joy of cooking, the joy of eating, the joy of having a food that suits your soul and you will not, can not regret it.

Asked our clock repairman, Mr Stempel, where we should have lunch. Told him we always eat where the locals go. Did not blink an eye and sent us there. Being late winter, we enjoyed a cozy meal inside. Deck really was not an option. Super meal cooked to order. Learned some new combinations. Delicious choice of brewed ice teas. Learned how generous the owner is and involved with fundraising for those who need help . Just sat, enjoyed our meal and drank in the ambiance of the whole experience. We will return , not just for the great food but also to experience, albeit briefly, the warmth of a community.

Went back this week-freshly made chicken soup with big hunks of chicken, carrots, celery and good broth--we had black cherry juice in seltzer water! and homemade corned beef hash-very crispy and flavorful. The omelets are full of interesting ingredients and cooked up in plain view in the little cluttered kitchen. It is a little tired but I would guess the building has some age on it--and it is well-visited-small groups meeting there to eat-a nice non-shiny , non-plastic homey place to get good food.
