George Orwell's essay 'The Moon Under Water' was all about the authors vision of the perfect pub. The Polgooth Inn goes along way to fulfil this ideal. This is a St Austell brewery pub and the Tribute in here is second to none. Easily the best pint I have ever had.
The staff are friendly, attentive and unobtrusive. The views from the beer garden are gorgeous and the food is fabulous.
Crisp chips, ham and eggs. Delicious! My girlfriend had the fish and chips which were equally well received.
Gin &Tonic cheesecake for dessert, wonderful!
This is easily one of the best pubs in Cornwall and part of me wants to maintain it as my own jealously guarded secret and have the Polgooth Inn all to myself!

The food is always well portioned and fairly priced, as like many seasonal places the service can be a bit hit and miss but most the staff there are lovely. Great Beer & Gin selections, it’s worth going just to sample the gins of an afternoon.
They also seem to have an outreach/rehab programme or something along the lines for a gardener there which is a lovely touch. Dog friendly too which is great!!
Fires indoors for the winter, beer garden for the summer & covered seating outside for when the Cornish weather hits, it ticks all the boxes!

Great to hear you enjoyed your recent visit, especially the garden. We have 7 acres of land here which is given over to rare breed grazing and heritage fruit & vegetable production under the guidance of our highly qualified horticulturalist 'Sam' you may like to follow him on instagram (sammy_veg_beard)

Thanks again!

Quite possibly one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. This is a classic, rustic pub restaurant with an excellent choice of home-cooked food - there’s something for everyone.
Set in a lovely picturesque rural spot just a short drive from St Austell, this restaurant is well worth a visit if you’re in the area. It’s very popular so try and book ahead.

The food is great - asked for the Vegan Menu which in itself was brilliant but also they were able to make some of the items on the main menu Vegan too -e.g frying the chips separately. They are happy to help and the service is prompt and friendly

Good news that the vegan options were great, the staff here are always happy to help. Come and see us again, you will no doubt love to see and taste our very own home grown heritage fruit and vegetables! Great view of the veg garden from our outside dining pods too!

Thanks again!
