We rented Cabin B for three nights because we wanted to see South Fork after 10 years and we have a lot there in Beaver Creek. Spruce Lodge looked good on the website, but seeing it on film and seeing it in person are two different things. When we arrived, we had to pick up dog poo outside our steps before we could unload -- and we have a dog, so it's not like I don't like dogs. The porch step was so rickety, I almost fell and had to grab the porch column. We got inside and it was downhill from there. We do a lot of tent camping so I didn't expect the Ritz. There were holes in the door screen, one bedroom screen was completely ripped on one side, the stove area was dirty and greasy they left a dish sponge that was old and had food scraps in it. The coffee maker and toaster were ancient. The sofa was dirty, one fridge door didn't close and there was a broken box of baking soda all over the bottom. The other fridge could not be adjusted and had an old TV sitting on top of it and when moved the TV so we could open the door wider, there was a ton of dust underneath. When we lifted the sofa cushions, there were candy wrappers and something plastic that we could not identify -- we didn't even sit on the sofa. The kitchen table was old and rickety and the two chairs were these cheap, old plastic outdoor chairs. The bench on the porch was missing slats and was so weathered, we had to put a towel down so we wouldn't get splinters. The porch light did not work and one light bulb in the living room was out. The carpeting was ancient and dirty. I wouldn't even let my dog lay on the floor. Then the last straw -- stains on my sheets. At that point I called the owner and she stormed over to change the sheets and basically told us if we didn't like the place we could just leave right then or first thing in the morning! This was 10:30 at night. She did not care that she was ruining our plans to stay in South Fork for three days. She did say she would refund our stay (she did) but was very angry and accused us of "nit picking" the place. She didn't even want to know what was wrong. I took pictures of everything. I would never, ever go back. It is a shame because the cabin could be really nice for a small investment of probably less than $500. My husband and I were probably more shocked at the aggressive, uncaring and disrespectful attitude of the owner than anything.
