It has great art in a cute building just off the 1st St and G St area. They have sculptures, paintings, and mobile pieces. Next door to a coffee shop barber and skate/bike park for kids. Nature trail to the river behind building.

I hate to judge art, since what you hang on your walls is such a personal choice. But both my wife and I were a bit shocked by the prices in here. Some cute pieces, but they need to spend some time at a few craft fairs and then rethink their prices.

I first visited Green Cat in 1999 after moving to Colorado.

As a cat-lover, it was impossible to resist the friendly green cat sign over the gallery's door.

I've since visited the Green cat four times and every time I visit, the artwork shifts slightly. Green cat features art glass, paintings, wood and stone sculpture created by the husband and wife who own the gallery.

The artwork ranges from quirky paintings of happy cats sleeping on mouse-patterned sofas to beautiful, sensual stone sculptures.

Most recently the gallery offered strands of beads sourced from a bead trader in Ghana. Also for sale were T-shirts featuring those wonderful Green Cat images, artglass jewelry, felted purses, and refinished decorative cabinets.

On the quiet Saturday evening we visited, we had a chance to chat with Steff, the wife half of the team who creates the paintings, art glass, and decorative pieces. She took us to the the studio which is in the back of the gallery and showed us an art glass piece that was just about complete along with several smaller finished pieces.

The studio was filled with clippings and odd bits of metal, glass, and paper with images and patterns which have inspired Steff's art. It was a really fun and intimate opportunity to see the artist's creative process in action.

I sometimes feel intimidated by art galleries. Like I somehow have to be more sophisticated and "artsy" to even walk into a gallery. Which is what I love so much about the Green Cat.

It's such an open, friendly place you feel at home right away and you can freely browse and enjoy the pieces on display.

Whether you're a new or experienced art lover, you'll find something to appreciate at the Green Cat.

This is a great place to check out while in Salida! The staff is very warm and friendly (steph). She immediately talked to me upon entering and we found common ground through previous living locations, music, and other things! She has an amazing variety of artwork and knowledge about the town. She is the sweetest ever! I would go back to check out her new art work and to collaborate with her to ship art work to my place of residence (out of state). Excellent!

Nice gallery/studio, good art, wonderful glass and sculpture. Large space next to a very good coffee shop. Thing is you need to walk down First Street to G to find it, but that isn't a long walk...
Do it, you'll find it well worth it, Salida1048
