Just wrapping up our three night stay in the Tower House. What a grand place, so full of history and in a gorgeous location to boot. We were warmly welcomed by Dimos and his family, who introduced us to their tower house and shared their family's history there.
The house was perfect for our family of four, with a wonderful view from the patio and every window, looking down over the village and across the mountains. Kitchen was well stocked with juices, coffee, spices and cookies. There is a small cafe/bar just down the street, and two nice tavernas for dinners.
We took a nice hike up through the village and up a dirt road to the top of the mountain, about a 2 hour round trip. Takes about 30 minutes to get down to Kalamata for the beaches (we liked East Beach) or the large market (on Saturdays and Wednesdays). Today, we drove the infamous road to Mystras and Sparta, pretty drive and not nearly as white-knuckle as advertised. Mystras is incredible, well worth a half day visit.
This spot is perfect for an introduction to the Taygetos Mountains, with more options than other locations--especially for a quick trip to the beach.
Highly recommend. We had no problems with anything. And the place just brimmed with history.
