This was an excellent trip! Our attendant in our car was super informative and awesome! She really made the trip! Great boxed lunches too!

Very cool, not at all cheesy. We took the slow moving ride to cascade falls. Note: no actual falls at the stop, you must need to hike to it, but we only had a 35-40 minute lunch stop. We ate in the pavilion near the roaring fire. There are many picnic tables overlooking the beautiful river but it was super windy and chilly. GORGEOUS! On the way up, the train released steam creating rainbows for a bonus picture moment. Bring lunch & snacks. Everyone had backpacks and were dressed in outdoor activity clothing. Sunglasses, glasses or protective glasses for cinder protection if you’re planning on going in the open air gondola to take pics. There’s a concession car (cash, credit) with coffee, cocoa & soda. All of the staff were A+++++.

We paid for first class tickets for our family of 5. We rode in the Prospective car and the money was absolutely worth It! Plenty of space, a tour guide just for our car who also acted as our server, unlimited beverages, free snacks and a pile of free souvenirs made our trip extra special! Sierra was the super helpful, very knowledgeable guide for our car and she was constantly offering more drinks to us. We did the half trip to Cascade as it is still winter here. For our young girls, the 5 hour trip was just right. The views from the train are amazing and this trip is definitely a "must do" attraction when in Durango. Pay for the first class tickets...so worth it!!

Start in Durango and do the full retun trip. It's long, but every click & clack of the scenery is awesome. Walk around from car to car, and change seats from side to side. Just don't lean out! Bad idea. If you do this in late September you will get to see the Aspen and Cottonwood Show in the hills. Golden leaves make every photo better.
