“What a shame”
Review of Civic Center Park

Civic Center Park
Ranked #55 of 221 things to do in Denver
Attraction details
Reviewed 13 June 2018

Civic Center should be one of the jewels of Denver. The architecture and history is beautiful and important to preserve for everyone to enjoy. You cannot accomplish this when you allow the entire place to be overrun by vagrant, lazy drug addicts. I do not apologize for that characterization. That's the honest truth. The area is filthy, unsafe and a complete shame. The tax-paying functioning contributors to society get the park for special events, the vagrant social defectors get to own it the rest of the time. Denver, you will not become a truly great city until you get this sh** under control. I have been to major cities from New York to Amsterdam to London and Paris and I have never seen anything like this. You gotta move these people along and give them something to do.

Very nice park, would definitely not visit after dark. Lots of transient activity after dark. Nice area for pictures as well.

1st time traveler to this area, from a distance I was excited to see this park, the statues.
As we got closer it was filled with homeless people with the shopping carts covered in tarps, Unwashed young people that looked strung out. Smell of pot throughout the park. I would not bring my family to this park to play. I do not see how the government can come and go in these buildings and not do anything (not sure what they can do though) The capitol is across the street & lines of school busses park in front of park. Is this a lesson for them: don't do drugs? I felt sick after going by this area.

Although the day we were there there wasn’t a big rally, it was easy to see why this is the central place for Denver political rallies. It’s a beautiful park and definitely worth a quick exploration. The park is surrounded by classic government buildings including the gold-topped Colorado Capitol building and the Denver City/County building. It’s a great place to stretch your legs after visiting the Denver Art Museum which is quite nearby.
