Description: Established in 2001. Shuga's was created by Alexius Weston as a place to hang out with great food and really inventive cocktails. She had just come from the Northwest area of the country and wanted to create a cool space where she felt comfortable. Initially focusing on Vivace espresso as a delicious mainstay, the place soon morphed into serving amazing paninis, salads, and the out-of-this-world Brazilian Coconut Shrimp Soup. The infusion of Lavender Martinis and cocktails created with care helped launch Shuga's into the forefront of the local Colorado Springs food scene.

Had a great lunch here yesterday with some out-of-town visitors. Three of us really enjoyed our drinks and meal, whereas the fourth person is just a bit too picky. (didn't like his lemon-ginger juice because it was too gingery; sent his quiche back to be reheated; didn't finish The soup for whatever reason.)
The shrimp soup is still our favorite, but the pasole was really great too. (Both are fairly spicy, so they aren't for everyone.) I always love the bread they use for their grilled sandwiches too.

We loved our visit to Shuga's for lunch. It's built in an old house, and you can eat on the porch, in any of the first floor rooms, or even in the backyard al fresco. The menu is not extensive, but really perfect for lunch.

One of the best choices is the trays, which come with samples of several dishes as well as dessert for $13. Others in our party had the ramen and a beet salad. Everything drew good reviews, except the ramen broth which was pretty bland.

They also have a sense of humor (see photo).

The restaurant is located away from the numerous eateries associated with the Old Colorado City and immediate downtown area. After a 20 mile bike ride, our group of 4 was very hungry and I didn't want to drive the 2 miles across town for some place my wife found on Yelp.

As it turned out, Shuga's was just south of downtown CS. We got there at 1 pm on a Thursday for lunch and there was plenty of available parking on the street. The menu options were varied and many of the items looked so good it was hard to make a decision. The service was solid with a friendly staff and the food was very tasty. Shuga's reminded me of many of small restaurants in Spain in that it serves as restaurant, coffee shop, and bar depending on the time of the day and the patron. I would definitely return for another meal.

No real gluten free options but their salads - they made that clear from the beginning. The salad nicose was very good and a great price. Server was to the point, all business.

I went here on a recommendation from a friend who lives in Denver, and I LOVE this place! It's in an old house close to downtown, the atmosphere is eclectic, staff are all smart and beautiful.... but the food is SPECTACULAR. Brazilian spicy shrimp soup!! Great cocktails, too. Overall awesomeness and an artsy place to hang out.
