“Nice place!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 January 2012

It is on the top of the moutain and has amazing views! The rooms are nice and cozy with a fire place. They have a free shuttle to bring you back and forth from town anytime. They have a great military discount, we got a $175 room for only $100. My husband thinks the building needs updating but it seemed fine to me. They also have a free breakfast they did not mention on their website and it was good.

Thank you for your kind response in regards to your stay. Our website does list that we have a complimentary continental breakfast; it is listed under “Accommodations”. We have been making great progress in many updates to the overall look and feel of The Lodge & Spa.

I stayed here twice- once in August 2011 when I was in town to plan my wedding and then in December 2011 after my wedding. The hotel is far up the mountain, which gives it a great location and view. The hotel is older and not updated, but very rustic and has a good mountain feel. Staff are very polite and accomodating. The breakfast was the best- their waffle maker made some mouth watering waffles! The hotel also seems to have a small number of rooms because it never felt crowded, even though our wedding there was during Christmas week- a busy ski week! We did have a miscommunication about our contract with the event coordinator but as soon as I spoke with Rhonda everything was fixed professionally and according to our contractual agreement. We had a beautiful destination wedding there.

Room Tip: Mountain view is worth the extra fee

We stayed for 4 nights during early January. Upon arrival, our GPS led us to a horrible road that was iced over and we could not get up if we tried. We finally called the hotel who then led us to an easier way to reach them. This hotel is WAY up the mountain. If you don't have 4 wheel drive in the winter-time, be prepared for a slightly risky drive or a completely impossible one at that.

Our check-in was fine....no real "main hall" lodge feeling overall...just an intimate lobby with a fireplace and a few chairs. Nothing all that memorable. Our room was on the 2nd floor...just walking through the halls you could easily tell this place is past its prime. Our room was in pretty bad shape. Cracked sink, poorly repaired bathroom walls, flooring, and a bathtub that didn't hold water. The hairdryer broke after using it for 60 seconds. The room was filthy. The sheets on the bed looked like they were going to be soft, but were very scratchy. Overall, we slept worse than we have ever slept during our stay here. Due to the multiple issues, we complained at the front desk and we were moved to a different room.

This room was larger and a wee bit nicer, but it still had similar repair issues. Beware of any events happening in the downstairs basement. There was a wedding or party going on and the music level was RIDICULOUS. The walls were shaking and the floor was shifting. We called at 6pm to question how long this would be going on as we have a small child and were all planning to go to sleep early and we were told that it would wrap up by 11pm. lol. It was awful.

Beware that you will hear everything that your neighbors upstairs, downstairs, and beside you say and do. The walls are paper thin!

The breakfast was ok. Nothing super to discuss. Two waffle makers, a selection of generic cereals, coffee, juice, and a few muffins.

Overall, we were disappointed with the quality of this stay. The managment has simply put bandaids on many of the architectural and structural problems in the rooms versus actually fixing the problems. It is a beautiful piece of property and the general building is good, but it is in need of some attention to get it up to speed to stick around for another ten years.

The Lodge & Spa at Breckenridge is located up the hill from Breckenridge. We do our very best to advise all our guest of the best directions to get to us. We have our directions on all booking websites and any guest that books directly with us is advised of best driving directions. Overlook drive is a maintained road, plowed by the Tow of Breckenridge and does not require 4-wheel drive.
Our goal is to make sure that all of our guests are satisfied with their stay. If there are issues reported to us we do our best to resolve. We are sorry that this guest was disturbed by the event taking place in our ballroom. We do have events and we do everything we can to ensure that any other guest is not disturbed by these events.
Our breakfast is a continental breakfast and is complimentary, which we are the only hotel in Breckenridge that offers a complimentary breakfast. Breakfast consists of hot waffles, coffee, juice, milk, cereal, yogurt, whole fruit, hard-boiled eggs, Danishes, muffins, toast, bagels and toppings for breads.
Yes we are an older hotel and we are taking major steps to improve everything.

It's a fine hotel if you can get a good discounted rate, but NOT worth the money if you can find better. The road can be very hard to get up in a snow storm if you don't have a 4 Wheel drive. Its also way past it's prime, old and dirty. The bar is closed as is the restaurant except for breakfast.

Bottom line it is NOT a top rate hotel anymore. I would compare it to a middle of the road Best Western.

Room Tip: We stayed in 101 which was roomy but dated

The Lodge & Spa at Breckenridge is located up the hill from Breckenridge. We recommend that our guests follow our driving directions as GPS, Mapquest and other such means of directions can direct you up more difficult routes. The best directions are to take Boreas Pass Road, 2 miles up and take the 2nd turn on Overlook Drive where you see our sign. You do not need 4-wheel drive to get to The Lodge. We are a very clean, rustic boutique hotel with a vintage feel of being in the mountains.
