Description: Va de Vi translates to "It's all about wine!" in Spain's Catalan language. Of course, it's all about food, too! Chef Mike Fischetti's menu encourages diners to explore and share a variety of eclectic, international small plate portions. Bold tastes encourage diners to explore the large international wine list, easily navigated by tasting notes. Many wines are offered by the glass in addition to pre-arranged flights to allow diners to compare different wines and discover new favorites. A warm, casual elegance defines the ambiance. Outdoors, dine under an ancient oak tree or grab a table in the picturesque lane.

When my husband was alive, we ate frequently at Va de Vi, but since his death I haven't been there much. I stopped for lunch this week, and immediately remembered why we love the place so much! Great wine list, well chosen wine flights, and really interesting food.

Did I mention the wine flights? There are flights for almost any taste - from roses to sparkling wine to heavy merlots. And I love the way they come - with a little number tag around the stem, with the number corresponding to name and description of the wine on the flight menu - so you can move the glasses around and still remember exactly what you're drinking.

The food is very creative - think everything from cheese plate with brown butter honey accompanying one of the cheeses to tuna tartare (yummy) to risotto to pork belly....well, you get the idea! Something for everyone here.

Yes, it can get a little noisy - so come early or late, and when it's summer, try to snag a table out back under the tree. But do come, and enjoy yourself!

Quaint fun place for get together. It can get loud for conversation. The food is eclectic and artsy at times but great tasting.

We have eaten at Va de Vi several times, but the last two left a lot to be desired. In our last two visits, the octopus has been tough and left largely on the (small) plate. The meat in the beef tacos was hard and saved for the dog. On the other hand, their vegetable dishes were quite good: a beet and blood orange salad and the grilled artichoke. As other guests have commented, their prices are high relative to the small portions served and we were were totally willing to accept that when the quality was high. However, Va de Vi is no longer a good value and we will probably not return.

Another terrific meal at Va de Vi. It appears that the chef is making a significant and positive impact. Truffle-Cauliflower Bisque, Ahi Tartare, Roman Style Fried Artichokes, Burrata Cheese, Shishito Peppers, Sweet Pea Risotto, Rigatoni Bolognese, Cornmeal Fried Chicken, Shrimp siders. Goo think that there were 4 of us. Service was terrific and wine list was significantly improved over previous visits.

We love tapas. And these are good. But there's something about the atmosphere at this place that's a bit off. A bit too full of themselves maybe. Other tapas in the bay area more authentic and better atmosphere. Not bad, just not great
