There are really great pros for this place but the few troubling cons make it a tough place to recommend. It’s close to the road so that’s that. If you want a quieter room, it must be on the lake side of the building. Once you’re on that side of the motel, the view of the lake and surroundings is beautiful. We stayed in a water front room (the most expensive) and we were very impressed with the interior. Modern, clean, great bed and roomy. Very nicely decorated. The downside is the building itself has that old motel feeling. Nothing fancy and the grounds are kind of dirty overall. The two main issues are the grass out front, which is muddy in places and not something you would want to walk barefoot on or lay down on and the foot traffic in front of your room, which is the biggest issue by far. Ownership understandably offers day passes to the public to use their boats, jump in the lake, use their barbeques and deck and layout in the sun. Unfortunately, out front of your room is their playground. But we could see past this inconvenience if the day trippers left at a reasonable hour. What I couldn’t believe is a huge family of 15 people stayed on the deck adjacent to our room until 10:40pm. Kids yelling and screaming as they carried their coolers, chairs etc. past our room. Absolutely not what I would expect as an overnight guest. When I asked two employees about this, they both said it was normal and that people with day passes can stay as long as they like into the evening. This is the main reason I can’t recommend the Lodge. This policy is unacceptable for us.

Room Tip: Choose a lakeside room

Dear paulbruster,

Thanks for taking the time to post a thoughtful review!

As always, we are happy to hear you enjoyed our beautiful setting and appreciated the room décor.

In regards to your two major concerns, we apologize wholeheartedly! The sprinkler system for our lakefront lawn was just repaired this week, so the muddy areas should no longer be an issue. More importantly, we have advised the front desk staff that day users are only allowed on property from 8am until 8pm in order to prevent another situation like you experienced.

We hope you give us another chance to serve you!

Love The Lodge At Blue Lakes!! Stayed with my daughter and grandbabies. Beautiful views and very relaxing atmosphere. The lake is gorgeous and we had the best time on the boats! Our room was clean and very comfortable. Staff was very friendly, accommodating and helpful, even brought our breakfast to our room every morning knowing we had 2 small children. We cant wait to go back!! I highly recommend The Lodge At Blue Lakes!

Positives:

Location is awesome, lodge is right at the lake, very convenient. Our room did have lake view, which is a bonus. Although looks like old motel from outside we were surprised by updated\new interior, very clean bathroom and friendly staff. Renting a boat or anything else is very easy and rates are reasonable. 1 hour of free kayak renting included each night you stay ! Overall good break and excellent time spent!

Negatives:

Breakfast is OK, but could be much better. Don't fool your self expecting Vegas style or anything close to it.

Pool- old and dirty floor. Not much care is taken and you do have to clean it from bugs with the net.

Refrigerator- small and didn't work well. We put water bottles in freezer and they didn't freeze over night just cooled down to very cold temperatures.

Beds and pillows - not comfortable, if you like firm beds with firm pillows may be it's your thing then.

Air Condition- although worked OK, the vents were dirty and left side was broken \nonadjustable- air flow would go only one-way. One of the beds was right next to Air Condition, for the family of four someone had to sleep right next to it. Turning it off was not an option with over 100 degrees outside.

It gets a bit crowded there, and not all people stay at lodge, some just use resort for the day and leave.

Room Tip: Choose lake view, more convenient to get to the lake

Dear ilusha19,

Thank you for taking the time to review the lodge! We appreciate any and all comments and recommendations.

The owners have taken great pride in updating the historic lodge's guest rooms, and the staff really enjoys introducing everyone to the beauty of Blue Lakes.

Apologies for the inadequate AC and refrigerator; we will check all guest rooms to make sure they all are fully functional, especially with the hot weather forecast for the next few months. We will also definitely take a look at the pool to make sure it's presentable the next time we see you.

Thanks again, and we hope to have another opportunity to serve you soon!

We stayed in a deluxe room where the "jetted tub" took as much space as the king-sized bed in the main room. There wasn't room for much else. The bathroom was standard, at best and had a periodic septic tank smell. Opening the windows vented the smell but then let in more noise from the highway in front of the hotel. On the positive side, the hotel is located on the shore of Blue Lake. We were unlucky with the weather but I assume that the lake would compensate for all else on a hot and sunny day.

Dear Jeff M,

First off, we are sorry to hear you didn't quite fully enjoy your stay in the Jacuzzi Room. (We definitely offer a couple of larger options with our Waterfront and Executive Suites.) We will also make sure to check all the guest room bathrooms at the lodge for any odors within the next few days.

We would also love the opportunity to serve you again during the summer. The temperatures are already heating up, and our shore and fleet of electric boats and kayaks are at our guests' disposal. Please mention this message when booking in the future, and we'll make sure to offer a little something extra for your next stay.

We hope to see you again soon!
