We live in the Bay Area and desperately needed a get back to nature week. We wanted to find a place to unplug from the news and all the negative things that are going on in our society. We checked into this beautiful location and instantly felt ourselves unwind. The beds were comfortable, the shower was big enough for two, the morning coffee was served bright and early in the outside lobby area and the staff was friendly and gave us great suggestions on what to do and see. We hiked and biked and completely relaxed. All the COVID rules were still followed but in a much more positive way. We had an amazing time and would highly recommend this beautiful hotel. They only allow 75% occupancy due to the virus.

A very nice hotel in a charming setting doing its best during COVID era. Nice large room with terrace overlooking the patio, large modern bathroom. Lovely large shower, no tub. Room has tv, hot water pot, free internet. Small icebox, no microwave.
Due to COVID there is no maid service for our two night stay. Bar is open for outside service. Breakfast is usually included as a buffet, but for now menu items can be purchased to eat outside or in your room.
Hot tub is closed for now.
We were totally happy and comfortable.

The location and exterior of this hotel was pleasant, but the interiors of the rooms were a disappointment. I’m not sure what exactly the “Sport Hotel” in the title might mean to others, but to the managers of the Cedar House it seems to mean a shoddy implementation (and perhaps a fundamental misunderstanding) of Scandinavian design. Yes, the room contains minimal furniture and decoration, but the effect is not one of simplicity freeing the mind to enjoy beautiful surroundings, but rather of a penny-pinching hotel buyer. Yes, the wood furniture is finished in its natural color, but its cheap construction and haphazard layout fails to give any impression of a connection to the forests outside. I’ve seen better wallboard, paint, and fixtures in Holiday Inns. And there isn’t a single piece of art on the walls. The bathroom is exceptionally cold, sterile, and unwelcoming, with fixtures that technically qualify as minimalist but that fail to give the slightest impression of the room having been designed by a person.

Having stayed in many of the beautiful and exceptionally cozy minimalist hotels the Cedar House appears to imitate (poorly), I’m not sure what went wrong here. The exterior of the hotel and the grounds are beautiful. Perhaps it’s just a renovation gone wrong.

I wouldn’t stay here again at any price, but at the price paid ($250/night before taxes, fees) our experience was particularly disappointing. I can think of dozens of California hotels that offer better value and a far more cozy place to rest your head.

We found this place after a filthy Airbnb left us with nowhere to stay. I can’t say enough about how wonderful this place is. Beds were perfect, they provided cleaning spray and a clean rag, dispensers in shower and near sink for soap, complimentary snacks, water bottles to fill during stay, spotlessly clean, huge rack for hanging things, duvets that were warm and cozy, beautiful grounds, quiet, lots of storage. Beautiful lobby, super friendly and helpful guy at check in. Really thrilled with this place. Rate was reasonable too.

I found this hotel by accident. I do a lot of traveling and came across this hotel while in a road trip. I would say this was an incredible surprise! This had the feel of a luxury hotel In Hawaii, only friendly and much more welcoming! Stephanie the hotel GM who was also incredibly helpful, informative and made you feel like you were a VIP! I really loved my stay there and will go back as soon as I have an opportunity to go back to Lake Tahoe !!
