We were going to stay here for the BIZ Johnson Marathon but ended up getting rooms at the Super 8 instead. We cancelled our reservations OVER 3 WEEKS EARLY and they still charged our card. Manager (who is also the manager at Super 8) was not helpful and told us they had no record of us at the SUPER 8 either. Even though now they have charged that card for our stay. Now manager will not return my calls and i am currently out $97.90 for the reservations i cancelled. Be careful.

I am a very fussy hotel guest. I've reviewed a number of hotels on tripadvisor (paso robles, ca hampton, hilton garden inn, san mateo, ca and others).

On a lark, I drove to susanville, ca. I had seen this hotel from the outside before and it looked nice. I drove up without a reservation and got a room at 11 am without more than 20 minutes wait.

The room (146) was clean, quiet, and had what I really appreciate in a hotel room: A comfortable RECLINER chair (similiar to la-z-boy).

The bathtub/shower had a large grab bar (more useful for tub than shower, but good nonetheless and this was a normal room, not a special room)

Windows open, with special lock to limit travel. TV worked well, decent selection of cable tv stations. Front Desk staff helpful and polite. Small bakery/restaurant on property was good enough for pie and sandwich. Free breakfast offered but not utilized.

I drove by the other hotels in town and they were not nearly as nice (in a pinch the super 8 might have been my next choice, but I didn't look too closely)

Within 1 mile, a Safeway supermarket, Walmart, Starbucks, Ace hardware. The town itself is the gateway to many interesting spots on the eastern side of the sierra/lassen mountain range. Do not expect a shopping mall. At least 2 movie theatres in town. nearby susanville airport for light aircraft with some military hardware on display.

Vending/ ice machines near my room could not be heard. The entire facility is NON smoking rooms and you must sign a pledge for that...HOORAY!

I have stayed in hamptons, courtyard marriot/residence inn, fairfield inn, hilton garden inn, holiday inn and express...this hotel is equal or better than all for the above reasons. It has also opened my eyes to non-chain hotels. though I would always check the rooms out before deciding.

:-)

Well what a lifesaver this hotel turned out to be ! We had booked at the Best Western Trailside Inn in town, what a nightmare that was ! However Sunday Night we went to the office and talked with Richard ( who was very very nice ) by the way ! We Booked for Monday Through Friday ! They didnt have rooms for Wed night however, so we had to make other arrangements or so I thought ! Upon checkout GINA who was AWESOME Came through and we ended up getting to stay in our same room !! The POOL area was GREAT and the pool was very very clean ! Always stocked with Clean Towels and the area was spotless as was our room ! The rooms were quiet, inside corridors, and very nice ! Everyone at the High Country Inn made our trip awesome and just a big THANK you to everyone there ! When we return to Susanville we will book the High Country Inn ! I give this hotel a 10 STARS +++++++++++ !! Good job ! Thanks again for everything !

Before we left on our trip to Susanville, I considered booking reservations at Best Western. But after reading Trip Advisor reviews, I booked at High Country. The person on the phone was very helpful, even when I asked about information regarding the town and the surrounding area. He was very specific about directions to the motel, stating that the directions in the AAA book weren't quite accurate. After we arrived, I was glad we didn't stay at Best Western. Judging only from the outside, it looks quite old. High Country Inn is easy to find, located just at you enter Susanville from the south. (We were coming in from Reno.) It was built only a few years ago, so it didn't smell old, moldy, or smoky, which is very important to me. It was clean, spacious, quiet, and we were very happy with our room and king sized bed. The price was reasonable. The only disappointment was the "free continental breakfast" which consisted only of coffee, apples, or a prepacked danish. But Safeway is across the street, or there is a restaurant adjacent to the motel. We didn't go to the restaurant, but it looked nice. I highly recommend this motel. It is only 6 or 7 miles from the prison there, which is why we were in the area.
