“A little run-down but adequate, with good location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2011

The Days Inn Sonora is a bit run-down, but it is clean and adequate as long as your expectations are modest. The location is great - right on the local main drag with the restaurants and tourist shops. The staff is friendly, efficient, and competent. The price was reasonable. The facilities desperately need a remodel, but they keep it tidy. They do have a roof-top pool that looked cool from a distance, but we didn't get a chance to look it over. The mattress was too hard for my taste. Our room (in the back section) had a microwave and small refrigerator. All in all, adequate, if humble.

The main building of the hotel is in a historic building. There is a second wing in the back of the hotel that just looks super ugly and run down. Stayed in the main building. Good points include the fact that the hotel is centrally located, its characteristics are unique and historic, like an old fashioned elevator, there is a continental breakfast near the lobby, and the hotel has a small pool. The cost was very reasonable for our stay. Problems with the hotel: our room was not cleaned very thoroughly. It had a funny smell to it too. This was the only factor leading to a low rating. Besides that, the hotel is just old and cheap. Other guest rooms had some problems you would expect at an older hotel, AC (window units) not working, hot water not working. Furniture is run down. Wifi does not work throughout the hotel. Shower is weak. Bathroom amenities are fine and the size of our room was very large, but some others were smaller. Breakfast was cold cereal, instant oatmeal, toast, muffins, toaster waffles, danish, and some fresh fruit. Juice and coffee. Sonora is a nice little town to stay in if you are visiting the area. It is a cute town with some interesting shops, and a really good restaurant and wine bar (Diaomdback Grill). There is a nice coffee shop (Sonora Joe's) two door down the street from this hotel. There is some great nature nearby, including Yosemite about an hour or two away depending on where you are visiting. The road to Yosemite and nearby are in mountainous areas, and are curvy. If you are not used to driving on these types of roads, I would avoid coming into town at night when it is dark out.

This old hotel (115 yrs!) is located in historic downtown Sonora. There is a newer "Motel 6" type wing behind the main building...but it lacks the character of the main 3 story original hotel. There is a second level swimming pool-which was a nice surprise.

There are many diverse restaurants within easy walking distance...which the hotel offers discounts for.

The main hotel is situated in Sonora's historic downtown .... There is a "Motel 6" type wing behind the main building, which lacks character. The hotel is 115 yrs. old (the elevator is 87 yrs. old!) but is well cared for and very clean.

We were pleasantly surprised by the second floor swimming pool ...the staff was very helpful..nice continental breakfast and the close proximity to many diverse restaurants all made our trip thru Sonora very enjoyable!

Definitely would stay here again....

Very helpful staff, clean rooms, continental breakfast and free wi-fi made our stay very enjoyable! We would definitely stay here again...

As a well located, inexpensive stay option for Yosemite towards the north of the park (Sonora is about an hour outside the park and 1.5 hrs to the valley), it was not a bad choice- but you get what you pay for really. The room quality was below average - a combination of poor maintenance and iffy cleanliness. The hotel was running completely full so there is probably little incentive to improve. Continental breakfast was ok. We got what we wanted out of the stay- a cheap place to rest our heads close to the park.

First, from the pictures from their website, this looked interesting... A very old hotel that is now a Days Inn. Unfortunately, I didn't stay in that part, but an area just next door (out back).

Pros: The check-in Staff was very nice. The on-site restaurant was very good.

Cons: The place was generally dirty. In a nutshell, it is long due for an overhaul. The free continental breakfast did not live up to other Days Inn that I have stayed at. Finally, because of the relatively close proximity to Yosemite National Park, the price was inflated.

Room Tip: Ask which are you will be staying in before final booking.
