“Great Romantic Getaway”
Reviewed 19 March 2012

My husband & I just had a much needed "mini" getaway to the Cottage Inn & Spa in Sonoma. From the moment we walked onto the property we were met with a sincere, friendly welcome. Our expectations of the place were exceeded by leaps & bounds. We walked to the square for dinner, even though it was pouring down rain. We had our own umbrella, but if you forgot yours, there were several that could be borrowed. Our room was amazing. It had everything we needed. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I look forward to our next visit & hopefully it will be on a sunny day so we can enjoy the beautiful outside areas. Thank you so much for making our stay perfect.

My daughter and I stayed here in February during her spring break. This is a wonderfully relaxing Inn , very close to the square, but on a quiet side street, with shopping and very good restaurants. This way we could have a glass of wine with dinner and not worry about driving. The breakfast was delicious , the fresh pastries being delivered to the room, plus the refrigerator was stocked with breakfast items. Tea and coffee were available at all times. We each got a great massage ,Owner Faye was very helpful and we took walks in the area ,recommended by her. We didn't do wine tasting, but got a list of the local wineries. Each room is delightful and different and we got to stay in two of them. Each innkeeper was so kind and helpful. I certainly will come back again, this time with my husband as it is a very romantic place.

Room Tip: All the rooms are different.

My husband and I just got back from a four night stay at this lovely modern style B&B and are already planning our next trip! I can't say enough about the staff, as you'll see echoed in other comments! They were always attentive, friendly and helpful without being intrusive. They gave us great tips and were always available. The grounds and rooms were kept spotless (we often saw them cleaning) and had everything we needed. Every morning we looked forward to the little basket of pastries hanging by our door, so that we could sit and enjoy with the orange juice, milk, fresh fruit and high quality teas which were replenished daily. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was luxurious (two person jacuzzi in the room we stayed in, ask for the suite in the front). There was just the right mix of traditional and contemporary with a zen feel. On top of all of this the location was great, just a blocks distance from the historic and lively Sonoma plaza and very centralized in relation to all the vineyards and wineries.
Note: The couples massage is a great way to start or end your trip!

Room Tip: Ask for the room in the front with the 2 person jacuzzi

We had such a wonderful time at the Cottage Inn & Spa! We stayed two nights at the end of February--the staff was excellent and really bent over backwards to make sure we had a great stay. Since they were not fully booked they automatically upgraded us to a nicer room at no extra charge. We also arrived very late and hadn't eaten dinner, and they called around to find us a restaurant that was open. They also had great recommendations for wineries and restaurants (Benziger winery and Caffe Citte are musts!) We stayed in the East Room, which had an Asian theme and came fully equipped with a fireplace, giant jacuzzi tub for two, private patio with two lounge chairs, minifridge, and a cute little breakfast nook. Our room was right off the courtyard which is absolutely stunning--during the day it's a great place to sit and have a cup of tea, and at night when they light the firepit it's a great place to curl up and sip some wine. For breakfast they leave a basket of fresh pastries on a hook by your door. Lastly, they give you a free tasting booklet for over 20 wineries, so we ended up getting all of our tasting's for free!

We booked this lovely Inn from an advertisement on line. We couldn't get the room we wanted but as I got to talking to Faye, the owner, she was more than accommodating about getting the room for us at a not too future date.

When we drove up to the Inn, we were greeted by Faye and the most friendly staff, Then we went up to our room but I would hardly call this fabulous suite a "room". The name of the room is the Vineyard View Room. You walk through a center court with a glass fire pit and lounging chairs, where you can go for wine and cheese on certain nights. Lots of candles and ambiance. We then went up the stairs to the suite. Our first site was the table between the couches, that had a bottle of Gloria Ferrer champagne waiting for us, as it was our anniversary, and two beautiful wine glasses. Behind the table is a fireplace and at the top there are large windows that view a vineyard. To the left was a set breakfast table, with fresh flowers. To the right was a coffee bar, breakfast items in the cupboard and a fridge stocked with milk, fresh orange juice, etc. On the opposite side of the room there is a king size bed and an open bath with a shower and jacuzzi for two. I was impressed!

They were having a wine and cheese that evening with a winemaker showing his wares. We didn't want more to drink, but I went downstairs and brought up a tray of cheeses and crackers (these were not cheeses from Safeway, either!). Faye had graciously made reservations at The Depot for dinner and we were able to walk over there. She knew that I am a food critic, so she was careful to pick a wonderful restaurant and it is.

The next day, we made coffee and went to the bottom of the stairs to find a basket full of pastries for our breakfast. These people know how to do it right! Then we took off for the Sonoma Square, which is only a few blocks away. It was later in the day, so we went to The Girl and The Fig for lunch and ate at the bar and then wandered around the square.

If you are looking for a really special place to share with someone, this is it. I recommend it highly.
