The Hotel Carmel is in the best location if you are vacationing in Santa Monica. It is a block from the 3rd street promenade and very close to the beach and famous pier. I found my experience to be highlighted not only by the location, but also the great service I experienced here. I am a stickler for service (smiles go a long way!) and I was impressed with both the front desk, valet service and especially the customer service representative named Francesca. She was friendly, helpful and very informative about good restaurants in the area. The soaps provided in the room made a special touch and good for souvenirs. My only complaint is that they don't let pets join you in your wonderful stay ;). I would love to return in the future.

For the price, the rooms are not great, but that's not what you're paying for. You can't beat the location: 1 block from the beach or 3rd st promenade. It is an older building so the rooms are small and the furniture looks like something you would find at motel 6 but again... location!

My new husband and I stayed at Hotel Carmel as part of our honeymoon. We were travelling around CA and so stayed in many different hotels. Santa Monica was our last stop and we wanted somewhere close to the beach and shops.
Location wise the hotel is perfect! Short walk to beach and shopping malls.
The staff could not have been friendlier; from the minute we booked in they gave us help with local amenities, they replaced a lightbulb immediately and even allowed to keep our luggage there until we left for the airport hours after booking out.
The room was clean and comfortable with really lovely soaps, shampoos etc. The only problem we encountered was the ceiling which had a mind of it's own but it really wasn't a problem.
Great location, fantastic price and wonderful customer service.

Great location, couldn't be better for shopaholics like me. Floors creak a bit, and noise carries from other rooms. Beds not particularly comfortable, and didn't sleep well, but the location certainly compensated for that. Valet parking only $14 per night seemed really good value. Unfortunately have to pay for internet, but walk only half a block and wireless is free throughout the mall. If you stay here, you must eat at Buddha's Belly next door - you won't regret it!

Room Tip: If you have a little extra money, request a queen or king room. The double felt incredibly small, and everytime my partner or I moved, it woke the other
