We checked in around 9 pm for a room with 2 queen beds with ocean view and fireplace. Room opened to the parking lot. After getting our key we did not thoroughly inspect the room or we would have left immediately. Upon returning from dinner after 10pm we were very disappointed in our room. We could see right away that the carpet was not just stained, but filthy to the point of us keeping our shoes on until getting into bed. And the room was not well appointed: worn chairs, dated furnishing- in an effort to proved an antique charm they neglected to properly clean the upholstery and wood. It felt very dirty and neglected. Upon laying down and looking up we could see a very thick layer of dust on the ceiling fan above the bed. The room smelled musty, we chalked it up to being near the ocean, but in fact the oder came from an opening in the closet which allowed access to the bathroom pipes-dank to say the least! The front desk was closed and the forwarding number did not answer. In the morning we were awakened by the voices of the neighboring room. After just a couple minutes of showering the stall would not drain causing a bit of a flood in the restroom-the front desk wa still closed and no answer/call back from the messages left on the 'forwarding number'.
When the fron desk clerk arrived she was polite and allowed us to use the family suite to shower-by then we were late for a wedding up the coast. We were told no other rooms were available for the rest of our 3night trip. No discount on the horrible original room was made & no call back from the manager or owner of the boutique hotel. Later in the day the clerk offered us a discount on a room of their sister property-which was the same price as advertised through trip advisor. That second hotel was cleaner but really a converted motel 6 type property-again with cars parked right outside the door. But they clearly had overbooked their parking And required us to park on the metered street only to force us up before 7 to ensure we would not get a ticket. The clerks at both motels assured us the Casablanca was newly acquired and in the process of being "upgraded"- no mention of this on their website or over the phone when we confirmed reservations. Needless to say we won't be staying with this group of motels again. Beware the reason there are no pictures on Casblanca web site.

Room tip: Insist on pictures of the "updated" room to confirm you are getting what you pay for

Room was beautiful and had a great view of the beach. The staff at check in was very helpful in getting us checked in. There are a lot of stairs and some of the hotel is a bit antiquated, but it's a really interesting feel. The only negative was the noise from the bar next door.

Room tip: Was quite loud that night at the bar next door (Thai restaurant). On a Monday. It went on quite late.

We've stayed here numerous times; staff is very polite and helpful - even late arrivals. Rooms are clean, comfortable... wifi works very well. Great location! Upgrade to ocean view - worth every cent.

Room tip: upgrade to ocean view

GREAT LOCATION! Staff really tries to accommodate! Stayed there for the Half Marathon as well as a Beach Soccer Tournament. The first time we were given a room that did not meet our needs ...So I thought since I never complain or send anything back I thought I might try to ask for a different room. If they would have said no, I would never have gone back. But they did their best to accommodate us and gave us a WAYYYY BETTER ROOM in my opinion. We enjoyed it so much and I was so impressed that they were that service friendly that we stayed there again two weeks later. We will be back because they were so willing to work with us!

Room tip: It does not hurt to ask about early or late check in. They always try and accommodate. Perfect location. Room 24 has a great view!

I was traveling through for work, and as I spend most of my nights in hotel rooms it's always a breath of fresh air to stay in such a picturesque location.

The newly renovated room 9 was exceptional, and had a tranquil private balcony overlooking the bay. It is super close to the pier and plenty of food options. Attached is a great bar downstairs and a relaxing restaurant upstairs.

I'd highly recommend for honeymooners or anyone enjoying Santa Cruz!
