Gorgeous hotel with large rooms and fantastic customer service. Very expensive but worth it for a treat. Nice pool and lovely Molton Brown toiletries. A five minute walk from the main street where there's a good choice of restaurants.

What a beautiful retreat into a Spanish garden atmosphere. The room was spacious with a beautiful garden/pool view, breakfast wonderful on the terrace and friendly staff. I accidentally left my jacket behind and the staff were very helpful in having it couriered back to me. Wish I could have stayed longer!

We had an enjoyable stay here in August in celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary with a vacation to Santa Barbara. The staff of this hotel is excellent. They go out of their way to be pleasant and accommodating without interfering. Izumi and Maureen on the front-desk staff were especially helpful and made us feel like family rather than clients. Among the amenities are free parking in a nice garage right next to the hotel; free wi-fi, which worked quite well for IPads; free breakfast, which was plentiful and fresh with great variety (kudos to the hard-working kitchen staff); and free beverages (coffee, tea, lemonade) all day and night. We had a long stay (9 nights) for this special occasion. Staff surprised us with a complimentary, first-rate fruit/cheese tray for our anniversary. Our junior suite was very roomy, comfortable. Nice location to downtown.

Room Tip: Rooms facing pool area seemed best. We had a first-floor room, which we liked, but late in our stay the people who had the room above us walked so heavy-footed that they sounded like elephants. So, if you don't mind the stairs, 2nd floor might be more quiet.

Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us on your 25th Anniversary. If there were an award for best guests of the summer, you would have won it hands down. All the staff commented on what a pleasure it was to assist you. Please don't wait another 25 years before returning to Santa Barbara and staying with us again...

Our stay at The Inn of The Spanish Garden was wonderful - but my checkbook is hurting!

Great room, nice bathroom, friendly staff, good downtown location, good complimentary breakfast, wonderful city; what else do you want?

If you can afford well over $400 per night (including the steep SB room taxes) for a king-bed room - nothing. Go and enjoy!

However, if that's a little (or a lot) steep, keep looking. We had a wonderful stay, and the hotel couldn't have been any better, physically. But, in my opinion, I think it's overpriced. Santa Barbara IS an expensive town, so I may be off base here, but that's my feeling.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms in the main building overlook the patio, also they have an elevator. Some other rooms appear to require some stair-climbing; be sure to ask, if that's important.

We researched hotels in Santa Barbara very thoroughly, and having stayed in S.B. before we knew what types of places were available - so we were very pleased indeed to find this gem of a hotel.
We were celebrating a special birthday and the hotel went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The room (number 22) was spacious, with a lovely balcony overlooking the pleasant pool area. It had a huge bathroom / dressing area and a nice seating area in front of a fireplace - would be great in winter!
The breakfast was excellent - continental style with some extras available on request. We found all we needed and very much enjoyed eating in the Spanish-styled courtyard each morning. No restaurant, but small snacks are available through room service.
The hotel pool area was beautiful, however do be warned that the space seems to only get a few hours of sun in the late afternoon, so not great for sun-worshippers. Just four sunbeds are available - and whilst we were visiting this was not an issue - but should you be looking for a sun-lounging type of holiday then maybe this could become a problem for you if there's an influx of holidaymakers.(There's always the beach though!)
One of the best things about the place are the staff. In most instances, we found staff to be very pleasant, chatty and helpful. Almost every question or request was dealt with efficiently and staff couldn't do enough for you. However, as it is a small hotel, it doesn't seem to have the facility to allow guests a 'courtesy room' and late checkout should they need it.
Santa Barbara is a great resort, with tremendous beaches, food choices and is ideally placed for exploring southern Cailformia. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from State Street and about a 35 minute walk to the beach - although there is a cheap shuttle from State Street regularly that whisks you around in no time at all.
The hotel is good value for money and probably one of the nicest available in the area. If you book, ask for an upper floor pool view if available - these rooms are probably quieter and more private.

Room Tip: Upstairs pool view rooms are likely to be more private and quieter.
