If you get the chance while on the Central Coast area,this is a must...........a massive Elephant Seal colony......just like off a television wildlife programme.Don't miss it

This is a MUST do!
We were just driving from Big Sur to Cambria and saw what we thought were logs on the beach. But they were Elephant Seals! You have to visit Piedras Blancas! It is great for the entire family. You can get so close to the seals.

Just amazing.

After spending the night in Cambria, we took a coastal drive to Piedras Blancas to see the elephant seals. The sight is amazing! Hundreds of seals all over the shore here for miles and miles. They are really quite fun to watch. There were docents available to answer our questions and needless to say there was lots of photography going on!

Don't miss this awesome attraction while in this beautiful stretch of coast here. The elephant seals are cute and very entertaining!

There can't be many places where you can get this close to so many Elephant seals. A great stop along the Pacific. We could also see whales swimming not far off shore.

My husband and I went to Cambria and San Simeon in Dec 2004 for a weekend trip. We didn't make it all the way to the lighthouse, but stopped along the way to see the elephant seals. About 4.4 miles north of Heart Castle on highway 1, there is a sign for a vista point on the ocean side of the road. Elephant seals were camped out right on the beach. There are docents in bright blue jackets who are happy to talk to you about the seals, which has been growing over the last few years. It's a fun diversion, and something unusual to see so close-up.
