Check-in was smooth and easy but our room had a funky smell to it. Water pressure could have been stronger and the towels were like sandpaper. WiFi is available but it gets weak the farther away from the lobby your room is. It's fine for checking emails and browsing, but you might have trouble streaming anything.

But, for less than $100/night, can't really complain too much, especially when that $100 is split between 3 ppl.

At check in, we confirmed 3 guests. The clerk gave me one key and was put off that I'd ask for a second. Our room had no lampshades on the lamps. I called the front desk to get lampshades, & point out we got the room this way. We barely got him in the room to look, "Can't now. I have maintenance do tomorrow." And a muttered after thought, "Sorry."

We found food from a prior guest in the fridge. No hot water in the shower, and then handle fell off. It was late. We went to bed.

In the morning, I stopped in the front office to tell them about the shower, but 3 people were waiting and nobody was in the office. They said they'd been waiting a while. I, too, waited a bit, and left. (Note: Contintental breakfast was on counter. Costco muffins, quartered, no sneeze protection, no effort for appeal. I'd have taken a picture but it was too packed waiting in the 4'x6' "lobby" )

At 10 am I called and told a woman the shower was broken. "Do you want it fixed?" she asked. Uh, yes, I would. And lampshades. "I ask maintenance, maybe today. I might be able to move room. Won't know till you come back."

By, now I had no confidence in Budget Inn to make it right. There seemed to be a language barrier. At no point did anybody say they were sorry for the inconvenience. I never got an assurance that the lamps and most importantly, shower would be fixed. Or they'd find me another room. My gut told me, "We already have your money for 2 nights, and no reason to make it right."

Expedia tried to help, and 3 people called the motel. But when I went back at 10 pm, I'd been locked out. The same clerk from the night before said I hadn't told them about anything, so nothing fixed. "You no like? LEAVE!" He refused to refund my money. I left, figuring I'd sleep in my car.

I went to the Holiday Inn Express. They were fully booked, but they called around and found a room for me. Later that night the clerk from Budget in called, yelling "The room is fine. You are a liar and a cheat. I knew that when you told me about lamps, you weren't going to pay. YOU ARE A THIEF!!"

Other observations: no under bed "blockers", so dust that the vacuum couldn't reach, and crumpled balls of paper (and, no I didn't inspect them, because I was afraid of what it really was.) Three hangers, 6 hanger holders. Mold in shower. One lumpy pillow per person (2 per queen bed). And they crammed a pink Formica piece of "kitchen" furniture in, so the room isn't the tidy "budget" room in the pictures.

Yes, It's a cheap motel, and I've stayed in many. But I still expect a clean room, a working shower, and sorta pleasant staff. This is the first time I have been unhappy with a "cheap motel."

It was so bad, yes, I'm warning others on all social media.

The only reason I give this a poor rating is because I booked 1 night at this place through booking.com. I always have a great experience with booking.com and I'm not blaming them for this situation but the hotel. Booking.com with most hotels is you pay at check-in and cash or CIC without it being pre-paid, so at check-in I paid cash. Had a great night, bed was comfortable, close to downtown and eating places. The staff was friendly as well. Until a few days later when I received a notification from my bank that my card was charged! But why? I paid at check-in. Not thinking much of it i thought maybe it was just one of those authorization charges some hotels do and will go away in a day or two...well the charge got posted and that's when I took action, I call the hotel and the guy I spoke with has no clue and says "oh yes this was paid with mastercard" MasterCard? I have a visa and what happened to the CASH I paid with at check in? WHERE DID THAT GO? After the call the young man said he would call me back with details to my refund and to check what happened...its May 5 now and still no call...this was almost 2 months ago!!!! My mistake was I trusted the hotel would do their job and have records of this so i ended up throwing away my receipt. BAD MOVE on my part. So BEWARE. Keep your receipts if you pay cash and guaranteed your stay with a CIC. If you don't they will probably do this to you too. Or better yet, find a better place to stay than here.

We stayed at this motel in Nov of 2014 while on a road trip driving up the coast. We booked with this place last minute bc we really didn’t know how far we were going to make it the first day. When we got checked in, I realized instantly why this was the only place in SLO with availability that night. The rooms were pretty rough but I really can’t slam the place that hard because you pay for what you get. I think it’s hilarious when people post reviews on here about how disgusting a room was when they practically paid peanuts for it from the beginning. Anyways the rooms were pretty bad. Missing a screen on the bathroom window, broken curtain rod, I’m sure there’s other things I’m forgetting. But yea this place is in major need of a remodel.

One thing to be careful about if you stay here is the walkway on the 2nd floor. Watch your step as you’re getting to your room. My mom about killed herself by not seeing a drop off in the walk way. She fell pretty hard because as you’re walking it becomes uneven and if remember correctly there was slope as well and no yellow paint to display where you need to use caution. I was pretty irritated about it but luckily she was ok, just a little embarrassed.

Room tip: Keep looking. you can do better than this place. I'd say the only good part about this inn is its about a 4 min drive to the downtown area with a the shops and restaurants. other than that, don't recommend it.

I was taking an impromptu trip to southern California and I was done driving and just wanted a place to rest for the night. Being Valentine's day I expected it might be a little difficult to find an available room. This property appeared decent in the evening hours, and being a Budget Inn I figured it less likely to be a desirable place people would choose for a Valentine's night.
The operators charged me $280 for a 2 queen "non-smoking" room. Unfortunately, I agreed and paid the ridiculous amount. The room was terrible - it smelled like an ashtray complete with cigarette burns on the counter tops, carpet, and ashes in the bathroom window; there were burns and tears in the carpet; paint chipping/peeling from the walls; a random lamp in the middle of the room; yellow uncovered light bulbs; pieces of furniture sitting outside our room; the window would not close; the fan/heater/ac was full of dust/dirt; the bathroom door did not shut; and the tub did not drain. My family chose to sleep in their sleeping bags and refused to walk on the carpet without shoes on.
It was a pit and I am still embarrassed I didn't drive a little longer and stay at the Best Western in Santa Maria. Ugh. Don't do it.
