Went with coworkers at the end of a business trip. Great menu choices and prix fixe selection. The wine options were great! Very convenient to our location.

Good food and excellent service every time I've been there. Upscale. Full bar. I've taken family there and they were impressed. I will go back.

The place looks very expensive but the prices were reasonable for what you get. The interior has a great vibe about it and our waiter was very pleasant. We ordered different dishes and everything came out great we really enjoyed our dinner here.

There is no need to travel to Italy to taste great regional fare when you can go to Il Fornaio in downtown San Jose. Chef Francesco Gazzana prepared an incredible multi-course meal from Campania, a region in Italy that includes Naples, Salerno, Capri, and Sorrento.

As a starter, he presented Pasta e Fasule soup, the best I’ve had. The bits of bacon brought out the flavor of the beans and vegetables. For the pasta course, he chose two dishes: Stragnulapriévete e Surriento, gnocchi baked with fresh buffalo mozzarella and tomato sauce, and Maccarone e Gragnan, pasta tubes with Italian sausage and marinated eggplant. The spicy sausage dish was a perfect complement to the vegan gnocchi.

The Secondi course was a marvelous fish and seafood dish—Spigula Dinto O Cuoppo. He baked seabass, shrimp, mussels, and clams in parchment paper. Wonderful! He also served Scaloppine Salernitana, a yummy veal dish.

The evening ended with Delizia a Limone, a lemon sponge cake with lemon pastry cream. After the many courses I ate, I welcomed this light and lemony dessert.

Il Forniao rotates regions each month as part of their Festa Regionale menu. You won’t be able to savor the food from Campania, but you will be able to venture to other regions in Italy. Chef Gazzana prepared my feast for me and 11 others. What better way to spend an evening with friends than tasting food and sipping wine!

Food at the San Jose location could have done better. My daughter ordered the 3 course meal (regional dishes) offered in July 2017. The seared fish was over cooked and tasted old. The main course, a rice dish fell flat. The pasta dishes tasted very mediocre. Service was very slow when the restaurant was half filled on a Saturday night.
