The lobster and crab dishes are messy to eat but delicious. The clams in black bean sauce were great and the fried calamari were terrific. Lunch for three with on-the-house soup and no liquor was $75 and very reasonable we felt. We read the reviews and arrived at opening for the first seating. There was a healthy wait as we left.

Every few weeks my son drives down from Santa Barbara, and we head for the Newport. We try to be there at 11 because, on weekends, when they open their doors at 11:30, there may be as many as 40-50 people awaiting entry. They have a large parking area w valet pkg.
Lunch menu is very low $, dinner $ appreciably higher. EVERYTHING is absolutely perfectly delicious & includes hot & sour soup. Best advice....order too much, taste many thing and bring the rest home.
Have been many times, and will return.

Last night we were a group of 12, with our own wines in one of Newport's several private rooms. As in past visits, everything about this place was special-- the food, the service, the ambiance.
We opened over a dozen bottles of wine including bubbly, whites, reds, sweet and dry. All were tasty. We paired these wines with about 12 courses. My fav's were:
Braided crab meat and fish maw soup (super tasty, great flavor and texture), NEWPORT special lobster and crab dishes (the best in San Gabriel Valley), steamed whole fish, Hong Kong Steak, crispy duck and Yang Chow fried rice. All very savory. Pricing was very fair. We will be back

Lines are long and they say they don't take reservations. Two different people in our party called for reservations and 1 got a "no reservation" reply and the other was able to make reservations. I heard if you sound like you're a regular, you're usually able to make reservations. We ordered plenty of food for a party of 6. The house special lobster was pretty disappointing. I felt like it was not cooked to order. Since just about everyone orders that lobster, I feel like they keep making it and it just sits in the kitchen. The lobster was barely lukewarm when it was brought out to us. The stir fry clams were large and excellent. Stir fry vegetables and beef was large, but felt like it was too oily. The shrimp chow mein was ok; I've had better in the area. The other dishes we ordered were just nothing special. Their parking lot is valet, but theres plenty of street parking.
