We go to Napa annually and try to get to several, mostly premium wineries. We've been to Caymus before and knew we would be tasting wonderful wines. But this tasting exceeded our expectation. The host was very informed about the history of the Wagner family, the winery and its wines, and Napa in general. His hosting alone would have made the visit worthwhile. But, of course, there were the wines. We started with a five year old Sauvignon Blanc that blew us away. I'm not a huge fan of this varietal and didn't know you could successfully age a Sauvignon Blanc for that long--but Caymus proved what a great winery can do. After two other very fine wines, we ended up with the Special Selection. All I can say is "Wow" and I can't wait to return.

Seven of us went to the Caymus vineyard for a wine tasting, not the private tasting just the tasting room for $25.00 each. I was looking forward to this tasting. The girl who did the pour barely gave you enough for one sip of wine. She was rude and unfriendly. They were a little overun from the groups that were coming out of the tours so it was crowded. Why weren't there more people working there? Another person come to help her but he ended up running the cash register and was not available to pour. The women next to me, not with our group, someone who just came out of a group tour asked for a taste of one wine that she intended to buy a bottle of and they said no. What kind of winery says no when you are going to purchase the bottle. Our group did not like any of the wines they poured and thought the overall experience was not worth the $25.00. We went to many other winerys over our three days in Napa and had wonderful experiences in all of them but Caymus. Thumbs down in my book.

You must have a reservation first of all. Call weeks if not months ahead. There are only ten people in a private room for the tasting. It's down to earth, not pretentious, comfortable, romantic, educational, delicious! I highly recommend going. It's $25 a person for a tasting of four wines. The grounds are intimate, with beautiful gardens...take your time when visiting. LOVED IT...

Hubby's favorite wine is the Special Selection so we decided to schedule an appointment to visit Caymus. I was a little concerned as I had heard that their tastings were on the stuffy side but boy was that wrong. We had an excellent visit situated around a long table (10 people maximum). Our hostess was very knowledgeable and was open to questions from the group. And of coure, the wine was excellent and you did get to sample their Special Selection. All in all, I would definitely recommend this tasting.

Caymus offers an exclusive, quiet sit-down tasting room by appointment only. The tasting fee was $25 per person but the personal attention was well worth it.

You are taken into a private room with a large dining room table that is set up with glasses, crackers and water. A brief history and description is given as each wine is poured, and then you have the opportunity to discuss with your fellow tasters (so nice since the tasting room is sit-down and is limited to 10 people at a time).

If you make an appointment here, DO NOT SHOW UP LATE! They are VERY serious about punctuality, and you will be shut out of the tasting if you are not on time.

I pretty much love anything and everything that Caymus puts out. You can only buy their yummy Zinfandel directly at the winery, though. The Cabernet is the true rock star here.
