Sightseeing around the LA area on the 4th of July weekend without a plan, we decided to call the Mission Inn on July 3 to see if they had a room available just by chance. We'd never stayed there before, but had heard about it. Luckily they did and the price was surprisingly affordable (AAA). I've paid more for chain hotels! Guess we were lucky because there was a wedding there that day (very popular place for one) and the inn was far from empty!

Just walking around the grounds is a joy. The architecture is ornate and the landscaping is lush. You almost feel like you're on vacation in a foreign country instead of a major American city. Inside there are many amazing antiques. One large wooden piece I thought was a piano, but found out it was a desk when I got closer!

There are several restaurants to choose from right at the hotel. We ate at La Trattoria and had a delicious Italian meal sitting on the terrace on a beautiful evening watching people walk by feeling like we were in Rome.

Our room was really large with a walk-in closet I'd love to have at home. There is both valet and self parking.

Whether you're visiting the LA area, or live there, this is a definite stop. If you can't stay over, dine at one of the restaurants, but allow time to walk around and see this elegant inn.

My husband and I celebrated our 25th by taking a trip to Santa Barbara. We needed one more night not too far from LAX before heading back to Washington, DC. A friend suggested the Mission Inn. We did run into traffic on the 91 freeway, so leave extra time. However, once we arrived everything was perfect. With three restaurants, live music, a spa, beautiful pool- no need to leave the property! The staff was very friendly and helpful and the rooms were very clean. You could spend an entire day walking around the Mission grounds and spaces load with history! Don't miss the chapel.

The room was decorated nicely & was very clean (modern room in a historic/grand hotel). The staff were great! They were quick to meet our needs- bring towels, get our bags/car. The housekeepers did a great job cleaning up after us and our kids. The crib they brought was clean and comfy (best one I've seen at a hotel). They even included a cute little bag of baby shampoo, rubber duckie, etc. They made sure to meet every need- we needed a small fridge and they didn't have enough during our stay so we used the bar fridge at no charge. And Casey's cupcakes were delicious!

Room Tip: I didn't see room location that I wouldn't have been happy with.

Visited here twice in 15 years, just to take in the beauty. I did not stay in a room, but the hotel lobby, exterior, and grounds are worth seeing. Lots of history here - Presidents have visited and gotten married here! Movie stars have visited and gotten married here! The Presidential Lounge is worth a visit for a classic cocktail or two. Definitely worth exploring.

My husband and I hosted our wedding reception in the Mission Inn's Grand Parisian Ballroom and could not have been happier with the outcome. Kristi, our assigned coordinator, did not overlook a single detail, and was always quick to respond to emails. Not one thing went wrong over the course of the reception--pretty incredible given all of the moving parts in a wedding.
We also appreciated the recommended vendors list we received when we first booked with the hotel. All of the vendors on this list know each other and have worked with each other at the Mission Inn before. Needless to say, it's amazing how little coordinating you have to do when your vendors already have the routine down!
The food was absolutely incredible. We did the fillet and salmon combo plate--very generous portions, and excellent quality and presentation. Our guests went home very full and very happy. We were also allowed to customize our hors d'oeuvres, and so add another personal touch to our big day.
Of course, the hotel itself is gorgeous. We stayed in the Amistad Suite (definitely worth the splurge if it's in the budget!), and were allowed to take photos anywhere on the premises. Our wedding photos are even more beautiful than we could have imagined. And I know guests really appreciated the opportunity to visit and explore such a beautiful place.
We also reserved a room block for our guests, and found the discount to be very generous (basically 50%). Even many local guests decided to stay the night.
Many people told us that ours was the most beautiful wedding they had attended. If you're looking for a timeless reception venue with options for a range of budgets, then the Mission Inn is your place.

Room Tip: The Amistad Suite is absolutely stunning!
