If you are a history loving person intent on authenticity or a shallow yuppie with plenty of work done looking to impress, the Mission Inn has it. I am in the former camp and stayed here when visiting Riverside for the Dickens Festival & Festival of lights. The Inn really has to be seen to be believed and you should call and talk to a desk clerk and let them know your preferences. A historic building that has been added onto over and over the inn is a destination in itself. Great service, clean and comfortable, if you come out to Riverside for any reason stay here and eat outside at one of the patio restaurants. Comfy bed, magical place.

Room Tip: Use the phone to talk to someone and let them know what you like, and what your price range is, though no cheep rooms they have very affordable ones. Whatever you want, they have it there.

Because of its eclectic design and the artifacts the owner collected, this hotel is simply the coolest we’ve ever stayed in. We scored a great rate from Expedia which made our stay even more of a treat. Our deluxe king room in the Mission wing room was very clean and well-appointed with large casement windows, a great bed, a big screen TV etc. We faced the street with a view of the cathedral. More expensive rooms face the inner courtyards with prices rising with the floor numbers.

After sangrias and Calamari at the Mexican café we wandered around the hotel for over an hour checking out the spectacular views and antiques the hotel is justly famous for. We did exactly the same thing the next morning minus the food. We checked out the on-site restaurants, and then had dinner at the Mexican restaurant to keep within our budget. The food was tasty and the service and atmosphere pleasant. The giant margarita was a real treat and reasonably priced too.

Parking is a touch confusing (at least it was for us). If you are using self-parking @ 8$, drive around to the opposite side of the hotel, park your car, then trundle your luggage from the parkade to the street, turn left and follow around the hotel until you come to the first entrance.

At Christmas the hotel is fully booked and crowds of visitors come to see the lights. After New Year’s the place returns to normal and the decorations start to come down on Jan. 8th. The reviews with complaints seem to correspond with the Christmas season.

We really enjoyed staying at the Mission Inn, and we’ll definitely be back.

Room Tip: Odd numbered room face the street.

Stayed here for a week during a business trip. Checked in the last night of the Festival of Lights. The hotel is beautiful and the light display was amazing! The room I had was nice with a balcony that overlooked the street (wanted a view of the inner courtyard but none were available). The food, including room service, was delicious as were the cupcakes from Casey's. Only complaint was that there was no Wi-Fi service in the rooms. Had to connect with an ethernet cable on the desk and cost was $10/24 hours. I think all hotels should offer free Wi-Fi...Other than that, a very nice hotel.

This is a beautiful property, oozing with charm, that has been successfully updated and brought into the 21st century with great bathrooms, wonderful food and outstanding service. One caveat, no matter where you stay you are going to hear the train! But if you are going to Riverside, this is the only place you want to stay!

After arriving at the hotel, we got a room, that was not we had reserved. Do check, that you get the room you reserved. You really should not, but this is the kind of place you have to. The Glenwood rooms are really beutiful. The staff is not really up to the standard of the place. However, the place is a gem and an unique experience. Next door, Simple Simon's is the place for the breakfast.

Room Tip: The Glenwood rooms.
