I tried the assorted sushi and found the portions to be very small. Some of fish seemed smelly and not as fresh. Note that Higuma does not accept Amex

The food at the Higuma is very good, the service is prompt and courteous and the prices reasonable. They have the best sushi in the area, and their ramen, tempura and other cooked dishes are also very good, and they have a variety of dishes to choose from. They are a small restaurant, and the sushi bar seats about 5 people. We usually go for lunch. The fish is always very fresh. Our only complaint is that there is not quite enough "su" in the sushi rice.

Was in town for work for just two days and flying out the next morning so this was a solo dinner. Solid sushi restaurant, very friendly service, quick and all the items were fresh and nicely presented. They don't have a lot of specialty rolls with goofy or pretentious sauces, so if you're looking for designer trendy hipster rolls, this is not the place. That said they have a solid assortment of standard rolls as well as nagiri. The uni was delicious! Washed down with an Asahi and all was right with the world. Nice quiet find, would definitely go here again.

Higuma is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, Japanese cuisine in the area. In the face of many new Japanese restaurants, Higuma survives. Its quality is consistent; its food good; its selections reasonable, and it has a loyal clientele. It is a smaller restaurant, tables are close together, parking is poor with the option of parking on the street. It must be the food that brings people back again and again.

Driving southbound on El Camino in Redwood City just past Whipple Avenue, keep your eyes peeled for this little hole in the wall. If you blink, you'll easily pass by it (total seating capacity is under 30 - it's that small!). Went there for lunch with co-workers and were treated to very good servings of sushi and tempura. There is nothing "exotic" about the place: just very conservative serving traditional Japanese fare - which they do a very job of. Because of it size, wait times can be long - word is growing on its reputation, lending to its ever-increasing popularity. Reservations recommended; you can also call in your order to expedite the process.
