Easy hike (or biking) with plenty of wildlife and nature on display. Walking alongside the river was a very calming experience hearing the running water and soaking in the peaceful ambiance.

It is an easy trail by the river. Good for a leisure walk too. The sound of water and ducks make it serene

We are local seniors. Easy access to the many trails in the Redding area has been a key to maintaining our health. Within a few minutes of our home, there are many different and beautiful trails for us to walk. Several of them are along the Sacramento River and give us a chance to enjoy the calming influence of the changing river currents.
When we have guests from out of town, we invariably offer them an opportunity to share in the beauty of this magnificent river. They have never been disappointed. If you have a few hours or days to linger in the Redding area, we recommend that you spend a portion on this exceptional system of trails, both paved and unpaved. Maps are readily available. Have fun.

Fun trail to walk, run or cautiously bike. There are several types of birds to look for (red-wing black birds may follow you!) & people are generally polite on the trail. If you are on a cycle, PLEASE be cautious as walkers/runners are much slower to respond than you & it is not only polite but in this are, the law to announce yourself as "passing on the left..." Announcing 1, 2, 3... more is also helpful to alert pedestrians of cyclists. Much of the trail is flat though there are bouts which contain hills & some parts which contain very large hills. Be aware of the layout prior to taking on the trail. Some areas are dry, others grasslands, while other still are home of waterways including the largest waterway in the Northstate; Sacramento River. Here you may encounter jumping fish such as salmon, steelhead, or trout as well as various species of birds. Visitors with dogs are welcome as long as they adhere to the CA leash laws & puck up after their 4-legged friends. No one wants to step in what your dog left. Bring a doggie bag & dispose of waste in any number of receptacles around the trail. Bring water & or small snacks if you plan to walk long distances, especially in the Redding summer heat. If you're not acclimated to the heat, it can become overwhelming quickly. The trails are are paved which makes bringing strollers easy. Appropriate shoes are sandals & sneakers.

This is a wonderful area to visit. The sundial Bridge is grand and there are multiple trails for walking and biking along the river. The botanical gardens are also lovely, You can spend all day here or see many of the attractions in a hour or two. The museum is a great place for adults and kids.
