“Gracious desert hot spot with glorious landscaping”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 April 2012

Just returned from two nights in Rancho Mirage for a reunion of family and friends. Rancho Las Palmas was the perfect place to stay, and what a change from NYC! The large property maintains an intimate feel, right from the start. It's classic hacienda style architecture, with a burst of color in the plentiful flower beds and along the grass edging everywhere. There are too many tall palm trees to count. The hotel shop has a great selection of clothing, jewelry, name tees and blinged up accessories, perfect for making your desert wear glam. Prices weren't too bad, compared to other hotel shops. The pool area is great for adults AND kids. The lazy river and rock slide kept many a youngster floating along happily on their inner tubes. But there's also an adjacent large pool around which mostly adults were lounging on the bright blue cushioned chaises. The bluEmber Lounge was a fantastic place to grab cocktails and hors d'oeuvres before dinner both nights. The setting is gorgeous, with live music playing just loud enough to be enjoyed without drowning out your conversations. Again, the gorgeous flowers plentifully planted around the private sitting areas made everything appear happy and bright. Twinkling lights adorn the trees, and after sundown the outdoor lounge has a magical quality to it. The rooms are fine. They do the job. Great for families. Ours had two double beds, which were very comfortable. Lacking in anything extraordinary, if you are looking for cozy and romantic. But, everything is well laid out and there is a lot of space. Our carpet had a spot or two, but nothing too distracting. Bathroom is functional and clean, with an extra side counter and a makeup mirror, if you want to throw on some bronzer to mix in with local residents who seem perpetually tanned from the southern California sunshine. (PS - if you're heading to an event, Ava in the Spa Salon styled my hair as well as any New York stylist I've used! Really talented!) Plenty of closet and drawer space. Housekeeping was prompt and very courteous and thorough. All in all.. a great place to hang out and enjoy the desert. My family and I will return!

Room Tip: Some rooms face large manicured lawns or a golf course, great for grown ups looking for peace and qu...

In Mach our family of 6 adults and two children spent 5 days at Rancho las Palmas and had a lovely time. The setting is gorgeous - magnificent gardens that delight they eyes, great pools (separate for families, adults, fun pools for children e.g., water slides), excellent tennis court and lovely golf course. The place is immaculately clean and the staff (around the pools, at the tennis courts) very friendly and helpful. I had a few quibbles:(a) some of the small appliances (e.g., coffee pot, hairdryer) did not work and had to be replaced (which housekeeping did quite promptly),(b) the gym was small and not well ventilated and there were no aerobics, zumba or other exercise classes (which a facility of this size might be expected to have), and (c) more importantly, you have to check the final bill very carefully because we found a variety of extra charges on it that did not belong and othr charges designed to get the most out of visitors ( e.g., $12 charge to print airline boarding pass!, $35 to use the door between connecting rooms . We did negotiate and get the promised deal, but it was not a good ending to an otherwise delightful family vacation.

Room Tip: Were were in building 600 which was midway between the family pool and the adult pool/reception area...

Stayed for a conference. Had a couple of problems which we're resolved. We reserved a king room in November and checked in 5 hours early. Confirmed a king room at that time but had to wait 5 hours for the room and it was a double. Took 1/2 hour of pressure to get the king room but we got it and it was lovely! Staff was very accommodating.
Do NOT MISS the music on the patio in the evenings! It was a wonderful way to unwind after working all day.

Great for families with young children.

I was so close to give a bad write up when I arrived at this Resort. Despite reservations planned several months in advance, they put us in a room with double beds instead of a king sized bed. when I called the front desk, they merely apologized and said nothing could be done. I explained the problem again, they merely apologized again. I'm not one to ever complain. We spent so much money here. So I explained the problem for a third time. Eventually, we were switched to a room with a king sized bed. impressions: Clean rooms and bathrooms, great bed, and nice patio.

The grounds are nice as well w/ a childrens pool, adult pool, and secret pool for spa guests. The gym is well equipped but does not have the greatest atmosphere. The TVs on the treadmills don't work consistently. Service at the pool and spa were good. I didn't play golf or eat at the resort.

Resort was located across the street from a mall with restaurants and shops.

I don't know if we would stay again if we didn't get a special rate because there are so many other options. I would give it a Very Good +. or an Excellent -- (minus)

This facility had it all, 25 tennis courts, very reasonable to rent a court and 3 9-hole golf courses. Very reasonable to play esp if you golf in the afternoon. The resort was very clean and the 3 pool areas offered something for everyone. We will definitely go back.

Room Tip: Unlesss you have small children don't stay near the pool areas. Some rooms facing on to the gol...
