Attraction details
Reviewed 15 June 2018

The Pioneer Museum is located next to the fairgrounds. There is ample parking. The well-organized displays are extensive and cover the pioneer families, economic development of the region, a century of high school classes, farming and industrial machinery, transportation, ranching artifacts, extensive rifle collection, taxidermy display, household and professional room displays, artifacts from daily life, and outdoor exhibits. Easily a three-hour experience with helpful and knowledgeable docents. Free admission - donations greatly appreciated.

This museum had all the artifacts and history of Paso Robles. You can easily spend 1-2 hours here. It is broken up in different sections from the farming that originally took place, to the dairy business to a section that had so many typewriters from the bygone days. There is a section with all of the banking and post office history. The two docents there are extremely knowledgeable and this is a self guided tour but should you have any questions they are more than able to explain the history to you. Lots of parking.

The docents here are friendly, personable, and have lots to add to make your experience fun and interesting! There are so many interesting displays, and lots to enjoy! We didn't seem to have enough time, but are looking forward to another trip to Paso Robles - and coming back!

You can spend hours in here looking at all the exhibits here. For one, it has the largest collection of barbed wire west of the Mississippi. Old carriages, cars, weapons, so much too see, and it's free.

I have been to dozens of local history museums which depend on acquisitions from the community -- think of cleaning out the barn or disposing of great-grandpa's things. This museum is one of the best. Its varied collection is well-curated and highly interesting. It is free but, of course, donations are welcome. The docents were great -- helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I would rate this as a must-see place in Paso Robles.
