Description: Slater’s 50/50® was founded in 2009 in Anaheim Hills, California by Scott Slater, a San Diego State graduate with a passion for gourmet comfort food and craft beer. Teaming up with Executive Chef Brad Lyons, they created the world’s first 50/50 burger – 50 percent ground bacon and 50 percent ground beef – taking the Southern California restaurant scene by storm. In 2011, the second Slater’s 50/50 opened in Huntington Beach followed quickly by the San Diego location. Since opening, Slater’s 50/50 has won a number of awards and accolades including “Best Burger” by The Orange County Register, OC Weekly and FOX 5 San Diego as well as Best New Restaurant by San Diego Magazine. Slater’s 50/50 has also been featured on national television shows including the Travel Channel’s Bacon Paradise and Discovery Channel’s United States of Bacon.

It was recommended I try this place while visiting SoCal. I am one for avocados and eggs so of course the go-to is the Original 50/50. Note: Just in case you don’t know, the burgers are 50% and 50% BACON!! Must be good. I order it medium rare (assuming they take meat temps), sweet potato fries with the pumpkin sauce, and a side of beer cheese to dip. Meanwhile, I am drinking Firestone Walker 805, a blonde ale, brewed in California. When my burger arrives, it looks tasty. A big shiny brioche with smashed avocado, egg yolk dripping down the sides, and a depressingly tiny burger that was a little over-cooked. That was the disappointing part of the meal. It could have and should have been twice the size. I guess I will order one of their bigger patties next time. Other than that, the flavor was there, the rest of the constituents were spot on, and the sweet potato fries with pumpkin sauce and beer cheese were good. Just needed more burger.

This place is unique for their burgers. I like how you can create your own burger. If your a big fan of bacon, this is the place for you. This location had some arcade games for the kids. Parking is not easy though.

A big loud place, very nice welcome, seated on a side wall, party of five. The burgers were ok, mine was dry and over cooked. The appetizers were mainly fried offerings. If you care about your health this isn’t the place.
