“Best welcome ever in my extensive travels”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2012

Got a call from the concierge the day before arriving with helpful hints on how to get there. Got a welcome package when checking in in the beautiful "zen" lobby. Thought it was for an invitation to timeshare presentation but no mention of that at all. All kinds of coupons and discounts for spa and restaurants. Got the smaller 1 bedroom "knock-off'. Small but very efficient. Asked for a sunny location but all smaller units are recessed and the units have been posiitoned for the view rather than the sun. So the balcony surrounded by full walls is always in the shade which makes it a little cool in winter. Kitchen the best equipped I've ever seen and immaculately clean. New resort and very quiet.

Room Tip: Asked for a sunny room if you want one.

The condo we stayed in was large and had every amenity we expected and more. The bathroom was huge with a jacquizzi tub, double sink, and double headed shower.

Loved the Westin Desert Willows resort. We stayed in their smaller unit which is still a one bedroom with a living room and a kitchen. The rooms were wonderful--love the Heavenly Westin bed! We had our parents with us (in a separate unit) and they needed a "firmer bed" and their engineering department worked hard to make my parents (73 and 80) comfortable. Great service and hospitality. Will stay there again.

The Westin went way out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They were really super. We had a double lock off villa and really enjoyed it. We used the BBQ, the patios, the fireplace, the nice big flat screens, the CD systems, the kitchen setup, but mostly we used the fanatastic pools that were open around the clock! We didn't golf, but it was fun watching the golfers from our patio. The beds were up to the Westin's description of "heavenly". The Agave Grill had great drinks with specials each day and were very flexible in allowing us to watch our hometown NFL games while eating a great lunch. We enjoyed the nature walk and learned about many of the plants around Palm Springs. The little store turned out to be really handy as well. The service folks had to come to our room for two problems - the latch for the slider to the patio was too tight for us to latch (they fixed this within minutes of our call) and when one of the microwaves didn't seem to be working, they didn't fool around with it, they just pulled it out and put a new one in. They also helped us with several other things we had going on and they guided us to great night out on New Years Eve including useful recommendations for a car shuttle service. The carts moving around the grounds always would stop and offer us a ride anywhere we wanted to go on the resort. When another group complained about the temperature in the upper pool being too cool, they turned it up! (My last hotel refused to even heat the pool so it was too cold to use in the winter even though it was California.) In summary, this is really a full "5" exerience.

A couple of suggestions that I will throw in, but please keep in mind the experience was great and these are just ways to get even better:
1) They had big resort vans but would not use them to take us to the other Westin. I didn't see the vans move all week. I am wondering what they are for? We had considered going to the other Westin for New Year's Eve, but when they wouldn't shuttle us, we made other plans.
2) Watch out for the "free gift" deal. It will lead to a sales talk. If you are interested, that is great, but I wanted to warn you. The free gift was a nice little Westin bag, but I didn't want the sales talk.
3) There were many plants missing from the nature walk listing that I didn't know what they were. It would be great to put more of the plants on the list. I suspect they thought we knew them, but we were new to the SW flora.

Room Tip: We were in building 3 on the ground floor. That saved hauling luggage, but later when we got to the...

We stayed in the Palm Springs area for 4 nights and decided on a "villa" instead of regular hotel room so that we could cook our own meals to save money. Surprisingly, the rates for this property were as cheap if not a bit cheaper than similarly rated hotels in the area (i.e., 4 stars). The accommodations are lovely. They are well equipped, feel modern and new. There is a nice flat screen TV in the living room and and one in the bedroom and a great Bose sound system. We also brought our own DVDs and watched movies at night. The kitchenette is very convenient and we saved a lot of money by preparing our own breakfasts and dinners. They have very clean, modern gas grills right below the villas and we barbecued hot dogs and steaks one night. Not to mention the convenient hideaway washer and dryer in the room at no extra cost. One thing I would say is that the "balcony" is no gem. It's sort of like a concrete cave with seating. It's truly no big deal, though. We were outside during the day and by the time we got home it was too chilly to sit outside anyway (this is January, remember). I would imagine that in the summer it is way too hot to sit out on the balcony.

The property itself is very guest-friendly - easy to get from the villas to the pool/restaurant/front lobby. The service was sublime. Anything we needed (and more) was brought to us almost immediately upon request. The concierge desk is full of information about the area. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Choose a room in the middle of a particular building (i.e., Bldg 6, 2nd floor has rooms from 6201-62...
