My husband and I were in the area for the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona. We chose the Fairfield Inn Ontario due to the great rate, proximity to the dragstrip and past experiences with Marriott hotels. Since the hotel is so close to the airport, we were worried that we might hear plane noise early in the morning and into the night. But we never heard a single plane. Our room was on the side facing the freeway, and if the fan (in the heating & a/c unit) wasn't on in the room, we could definitely hear traffic noise. We just left the fan on and it served as white noise, blocking out the traffic sounds. It was pretty chilly that weekend, so we had to use the heater and when it was on, it was pretty noisy.
The hotel is in the process of refurbishing rooms. Currently they're working on rooms on the 3rd floor. We were on the 2nd floor, and we didn't hear any noise from work being done. Our room was a refurbished room and was very nice. It was a bit small, but we weren't in the room much and we found it sufficient. As far as we could tell, they had put in new carpet, wallpaper, drapes. They don't use the dreaded bedspreads, but instead do the sheet covered/duvet type of thing that gets changed when the sheets are changed. The bathroom was definitely nothing fancy. But again, it served its purpose. Everything was CLEAN, not to mention that the hotel seems to be in a very safe area. And to me, those are the most important aspects. There are refrigerator, microwave and coffe maker in the room. As I've found in all Marriott hotels I've stayed in, the bed and pillows were very comfortable.
The 1st and 2nd floor rooms open to the outside covered walkway, which is a bit of a minus to me. The 3rd floor rooms open to an enclosed hallway, and your room card must be used in the elevator to access the 3rd floor. Altho the hotel seems to be in a safe area, I would prefer to be on the 3rd floor. We chose to be on the 2nd floor because we wanted to have a refurbished room.
There is a complimentary breakfast each morning. They have dry cereal, instant oatmeal, bagels, english muffins, sweet muffins, microwaveable breakfast sandwiches, yogurt, grapefruit slices, apples and bananas. The breakfast room is very, very cramped and it was frustrating trying to jockey for position at the toaster or other spots. Tables were right there and with so many people trying to choose their food, it was hard not to bump into the poor folks sitting at the tables that were so close. The ladies in charge of replenishing the breakfast items worked very hard and always had a nice selection available. Coffee and tea are available 24/7 in the adjoining lobby.
The only restaurant within walking distance is the Panda Inn Chinese Restaurant is right next door. Otherwise, there are many restaurants in a 5 mile radius.
The Fairfield Inn Ontario was perfect for what we needed... convenient, a good value and very clean.
