“Comfy, Great Value, Very Clean”
Reviewed 15 February 2012

My husband and I were in the area for the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona. We chose the Fairfield Inn Ontario due to the great rate, proximity to the dragstrip and past experiences with Marriott hotels. Since the hotel is so close to the airport, we were worried that we might hear plane noise early in the morning and into the night. But we never heard a single plane. Our room was on the side facing the freeway, and if the fan (in the heating & a/c unit) wasn't on in the room, we could definitely hear traffic noise. We just left the fan on and it served as white noise, blocking out the traffic sounds. It was pretty chilly that weekend, so we had to use the heater and when it was on, it was pretty noisy.

The hotel is in the process of refurbishing rooms. Currently they're working on rooms on the 3rd floor. We were on the 2nd floor, and we didn't hear any noise from work being done. Our room was a refurbished room and was very nice. It was a bit small, but we weren't in the room much and we found it sufficient. As far as we could tell, they had put in new carpet, wallpaper, drapes. They don't use the dreaded bedspreads, but instead do the sheet covered/duvet type of thing that gets changed when the sheets are changed. The bathroom was definitely nothing fancy. But again, it served its purpose. Everything was CLEAN, not to mention that the hotel seems to be in a very safe area. And to me, those are the most important aspects. There are refrigerator, microwave and coffe maker in the room. As I've found in all Marriott hotels I've stayed in, the bed and pillows were very comfortable.

The 1st and 2nd floor rooms open to the outside covered walkway, which is a bit of a minus to me. The 3rd floor rooms open to an enclosed hallway, and your room card must be used in the elevator to access the 3rd floor. Altho the hotel seems to be in a safe area, I would prefer to be on the 3rd floor. We chose to be on the 2nd floor because we wanted to have a refurbished room.

There is a complimentary breakfast each morning. They have dry cereal, instant oatmeal, bagels, english muffins, sweet muffins, microwaveable breakfast sandwiches, yogurt, grapefruit slices, apples and bananas. The breakfast room is very, very cramped and it was frustrating trying to jockey for position at the toaster or other spots. Tables were right there and with so many people trying to choose their food, it was hard not to bump into the poor folks sitting at the tables that were so close. The ladies in charge of replenishing the breakfast items worked very hard and always had a nice selection available. Coffee and tea are available 24/7 in the adjoining lobby.

The only restaurant within walking distance is the Panda Inn Chinese Restaurant is right next door. Otherwise, there are many restaurants in a 5 mile radius.

The Fairfield Inn Ontario was perfect for what we needed... convenient, a good value and very clean.

PROS
Great rates
Newly refurbished rooms
Very clean
Comfy bed and pillows
No plane noise
Decent breakfast
Safe location
Coffee & tea 24/7 in lobby

CONS
Rooms on freeway side noisy
Noisy heater and a/c
Breakfast room is toooo small
Rooms on 1st & 2nd floors open to outside (3rd floor enclosed)
Bathrooms not bad but not great

Room Tip: I would request a 3rd floor refurbished room NOT on the freeway side.

I think the newer Fairfield Inns also have the word suite in their name, so this might be an older hotel. I agree with another reviewer that the management is just plain rude/mean. Upon checking in, the young man (his 4th day) was left alone at the front desk and no one helped him as he was checking me in and both telephones began to ring and another guest complained about his room key not working. A woman manager (Brenda) finally came out and I mentioned that the young man could use some help but she just laughed and said he was in training and better get used to it. Not nice and certainly not something I want to hear. Where is the team work here?

The Inn is located in the middle of many office type buildings and so there are no restaurants within sight. But, just 2-3 miles away is the Ontario Mills Outlet center and the New York Grill restaurant has fabulous Chicago's Stock Yard's dry-aged, corn fed, USDA Prime beef. There are many other restaurants too. This Inn is right down the street from the convention center so if you have a function there this is a good place to stay.

Make sure you ask for a 3rd floor room away from the freeway so you have the security of the interior corridor and a quiet room. My room was clean and the bed comfortable, but the pillows had a weird smell. I would describe it like those cardboard car air fresheners. It was a sickening sweet smell like bubble gum. I had a 2Q room and 10 pillows so I was able to find 2 that didn't have that smell. .The in-room wifi is fast...always a plus for me.

My room included breakfast and it was the usual cereal waffle machine, yogurt, tasteless bagels, english muffins, juice, coffee affair. It will fill you up and get you through to lunch.

Room Tip: Definitely get a room on the 3rd floor and the side away from the freeway.

Wow ...what a stay at the Fairfield. They pick you up at the airport in Ontario. No waiting just five min to your room. Sleep in .... then breakfast...... cab back to the airport to pick up the car rental...... Being centrally located you can travel anywhere or stay at another Fairfield, visit Disnyland, or the medical center at Loma Linda , or Knotts Berry Farm .... do your "thing" return to the Centrelake Fairfield Inn ... deliver your car back at the airport and then ready for the return air trip back home. Have done this trip for many years make travel easy. I love the Fairfield Inn on CentreLake Drive and also stay at many other Fairfields. If you want to stay at a fancy motel with lots of activities ... this may not be your place ... but if you want a place that is clean, quiet and safe . A place that enables you to "go where you want to go" this is it !!

Room Tip: I like the upper rooms away from noises.
