Owner description: $110 Wine Tour. Join us on a Platypus small-group wine tour of the Napa Valley, the Sonoma Valley or the Russian River / Healdsburg wine country! You’ll visit four charming, backroads wineries, be served a picnic lunch in a winery setting and learn many interesting tidbits: local history, culture and wine making. Our specialty is intimate, fun and memorable wine tours. This is a social tour for folks who are interested in tasting some of the world’s most celebrated wines, but are not necessarily wine experts. Hotel pick-up included. Tasting fees not included. Last-minute inquiries are also welcome! We offer private tours as well. Did we mention, fun?! TCP-21230-P

Decided on a Napa Valley tour with Platypus Tours (on a recommendation from hotel) to get familiar with the area. We knew we wanted to visit the smaller wineries and this tour did not disappoint. We were picked up at 10:30 and were on our way. Rod was very knowledgable with the area and provided a lot of history along the way. We visited 5 wineries, each sampling about 5 or 6 wines. The itinerary is arranged the morning of so each day it will differ. Sampling fees are not included and differ from place to place. Some will reimburse if you make a purchase. We really enjoyed our time in Napa Valley, we booked right away for a tour of Sonoma Valley a couple of days later....again with Platypus Tours. The Sonoma tour was with Sam, another knowledgeable fellow. He started us through the square and provided a lot of history of the area. Later, visited an array of wineries and even a cave, not too many in the area to see, so if you get a chance check it out! Sonoma is definitely more rustic but worth every minute. This day was a complete wash-out but that was no reflection attention and service we were provided. Honestly, rain or shine you can't go wrong with either of these. I would definitely take either of these again and would recommend this to anyone traveling the area and looking to taste good wine ;)

“Excellent day trip, great tour guide”

Our driver DJ was fun and informative. We had the chance to join a nice group of other people which made the experience even better. We also enjoyed very much the opportunity to discover the "smaller", off-the-road wineries.
We can only strongly recommend Platypus

I actually took this tour in April of 2009 (I wasnt a Tripadvisor member at the time). We had a fantastic time! Very educated and professional staff, as well as a great connection to wineries that the average person cannot get to. We were fortunate in that the day we booked and the location we were picked up from allowed us to take this tour alone. Regardless, it is a FANTASTIC TOUR!!

Our tour guide, Dave was so welcoming. He made the whole trip lively. The picnic lunch and cheese platter on bus was a bonus. We also got some complimentary wine tasting, not to mention some very good selection of wines. Dave really knows what the guests preferences are and really helped us pick up the best wines.

This is my first trip to Napa. When I was trying to decide how to see wine country, it was suggested I do a wine tour and Platypus did not disappoint. Our tour guide was named Dave and he was so friendly and knowledgable about wine country. For a Napa virgin, this was the only way to see the area. It was also nice to drink and not have to worry about driving. I highly recommend this tour....and specifically Dave.
