What a pleasant surprise. The hotel was funky and electic. When we walked into our nautical themed room, the large plate glass window looked out onto a marshland filled with birds, wild turkeys and other wildlife. Then your eyes move onto the Elkhorn Slough, dunes and then the ocean. Very tranquil place to stay. The staff was extremely helpful, breakfasts were tasty, a different kind of cookie freshly baked every day and left in your room, the room was clean and bed very comfortable. We will definitely go back. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because the building we stayed in needed painting and looked out of place with the Victorian blue of the hotel.

Tom and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The flora and fauna were tremendous. Chrissy and Barbara were delightful hosts. We loved our stay so much that we have already booked our next visit. Restaurants within walking distance and the surround is peaceful. We loved watching the sea otters and sea lions in the Elkhorn Slough.

This is the only place we stayed on our recent visit to California where we did not make a reservation ahead of our arrival. Since we were going to be in the Monterey Bay area for the night we used our phones to look for places to stay right before we got there. We found a place that met our needs. We got a room in the original building and on the second floor. The manager even gave us a small discount when we asked if we could get one. He showed us around the room as well as the kitchen where we could keep our things in the refrigerator. The bed in the room was comfortable and we got a good night's sleep. Even though the room did not have an air conditioner, it was at a suitable temperature; this was due to the fact that the building sits next to an ocean estuary and receives cooling breezes. The bathroom had an old tub up on four legs surrounded by a curtain. The controls worked fine for the showers we took. The only unusual thing in the bathroom was that there was no mirror. We had a very good hot breakfast with fruit; the meal was served by the manager and an assistant. We walked outside to the estuary where we could see numerous birds; from other nearby viewing points we could see seals and otters.

Can't speak highly enough about the innkeepers, just a really friendly couple. We enjoyed their bubbly personalities immensely, not to mention some really good cooking. They were both very attentive and made us feel right at home. The room included breakfast and I'm usually not a breakfast person, but I made an exception and it was worth it! It was also really enjoyable to speak to the different people staying and learning about their particular journeys including a couple from Kansas marveling at the fact that it was cold in "sunny California" along with a retiring veteran who's absolute joy at breakfast every morning was contagious and a great way to start the day. Gotta love that kind of enthusiasm! Our room "Sanctuary" great view, clean and mostly comfortable room, a small table to sit at and put our goodies from shopping at the local fruit stands would have been a nice addition. Bed was comfortable a little on the firm side, lots of pillows and nice clean sheets. The double headed shower was huge, never ran out of hot water and the window to look out was neat, also nice quality of shower sundries provided, but if I have to be honest a tub to soak in would have been nice, especially on the foggy cold nights. The Haute Enchilada had some amazing food along with Phil's Fish (insane lines at Phil's!) the lady working the reception desk raved about Moss Landing Cafe, but maybe we hit it on an off afternoon as we just didn't feel the love regarding the food when we went for lunch, really nice waitress though, can't complain about the service at all. Overall a really nice stay, and I would definitely stay at this B&B again, but would request a room with a tub and a table. :-)

Room Tip: Sanctuary room has no bathtub, shower only so no bubble baths :-(

Thank you for the nice review, our innkeeper is happy that you loved her food and conversation. Our boathouse rooms do offer great views of the river, teeming with birds and mammals. We do have some great restaurants in the area, along with whale watching and Elkhorn Slough tours. Our inn is in a great location for sight seeing or just relaxing on the boat deck or beach. We are happy to hear that you did enjoy your stay and we look forward to seeing you again.................The Crew
