“Scuba divers galore”
Reviewed 16 January 2012

If you have kids who love boats this is a great place to look at them. We didn't see a lot of wildlife when we were there, but the sun was already setting so that might be why. You can see starfish in the water which is pretty cool to see without the chance of getting wet.

“Place to Watch SCUBA Divers”

Under renovation, so full length may not be open. Pier fishing possible when not crowded with divers. Massaro & Santos restaurant is affordable and good quality for a harbor view.

“Seals and Sea Lions Up Close and Personal…”
Reviewed 26 November 2010

The Monterey visitor’s center personnel told us that the Coast Guard Pier was the best place to see large gatherings of the Seals and Sea Lions. Very near Cannery Row, there is plenty of metered parking ($1.50 an hour). Walk along the sea wall where looking out you can see starfish, sea otters and individual sea lions/seals so close you can almost touch them (of course don’t touch them). At the piers end you come to a rod iron fence that just beyond are where very large groups of sea lions/seals are barking and doing their thing. The fence does not prevent you from taking great shots and enjoying the animals as they relax and bask in the sunshine. Fishing along the pier is allowed.
