Mendocino Hotel and Garden Suites

When I bought a Groupon for the Mendocino Hotel, I thought we were staying in the back of the hotel on Main Street where I assume there was some garden. I was actually concerned that I'd have trouble finding parking with all the tourists that converge on Mendocino on the weekends. Imagine my delight when it turned out that we scored a large room in one of the guest houses two blocks away on Ukiah Street. You can barely see the driveway from the street since it looks like you're entering someone's private property, but lo and behold, there's ample parking and even a garden walkway on the side of a blue house.

Even though it's obviously not that old a building, the spacious rooms are decorated in the same Victorian style that the main hotel showcases. The furniture looks appropriately antique like you're a guest at the Shady Rest where Uncle Joe is movin' kinda slow, but it doesn't feel tired. King-size bed, lace curtains, big armoire, drawing room sofa, marble fireplace, the works (see photo). The bathroom is huge, and even if it didn't have many modern touches, it was comfortable enough. By the way, I had no idea how quiet Mendocino gets at night. Unlike Fort Bragg, it's as still as a tomb and can be unnerving if you are looking for some nocturnal entertainment. By the way, the Groupon allowed us two nights for just $242, which is quite a deal for these parts. I say go for it if you can get a deal.

Great weekend get away! The staff was friendly and efficient. The restaurant delicious, the scallops were outstanding, the baked French onion soup mouth watering. The proximity to the awesome Mendocino Headlands make it unbeatable.

Overall very good. Breakfast is ample, many types of bagels 2 waffle machines, hard boiled eggs, OJ, beverages . Prices are very reasonable, AAA and ex military discounts. Rooms are clean, beds comfortable, extra blankets available. Front office staff very helpful., gave assistance with bags to 1st floor

Room Tip: Rooms with fireplaces are unsuitable for those wish asthma. The old wood ash caused...

The hotel is very old, which is fine, it was established in 1878... The suite we stayed in was small with old and the most ugliest wallpaper and rugs. The bedroom was depressing. Everything is small.
It took me two longest attempts for a front desk rep. Dave to finally answer the phone.
WI-FI serivice is the worst and dosn't work in the rooms, only in the lobby and only if you are lucky. Will not come back.

Room Tip: Too much for the money.

Our children gave us a gift certificate to visit the Mendocino Hotel & Garden Suites. We found it to be a lovely Victorian establishment with all the decor that should be expected in a Victorian historical hotel. Our room was lovely, by the gardens, quiet, clean and comfortable! We are definitely coming back again!!

Restaurant on site was delicious - Dinner service provided by Michelle was EXCELLENT!

Room Tip: Garden Suites with pricate baths are likely best bet. Expect that it is a Victorian, historical inn...
