I live in Arcata which is a three hour drive from Mendocino. A friend who lives in the Bay Area (also three hours from Mendo) and I met for a three day get away at The Mendocino Hotel. The hotel is beautiful: right on the Main Street facing the ocean. The rooms are very comfy, including fire places in most. The Hotel is the perfect launching place for hikes along the bluffs. ALWAYS look at the Hotel's specials because our room is usually $350 a night, but the two nights were $199 total. The "living room" feels like just that -- so inviting with comfortable chairs along with tables and chairs and a fire going. Food at the hotel's bistro and the dining room is terrific. A great place to go for friends!

The entire professional hotel staff was thrilled to read the comments that this guest made. All positive comments are read by staff which provides incentive to offer the very best experience to our guests. The fact that this guest appreciates our hotel as a “launching place for hikes along the bluffs” is a wonderful fact that we are centrally located in our village and just steps away from beaches, shopping and hiking.

Had a great stay at the Mendocino Hotel a couple weeks ago. I was in Mendocino for a workshop at the Mendocino Art Center which I would also highly recommend. It was a perfect location to stay at right in town. I could easily walk every morning to my class and back in the afternoon. It is located right in town close to many restaurants and shops. I stayed in the Eurpean rooms. This is with a shared bathroom but with 4 of them on the floor, that was never a problem. Also there was a sink in the room for washing up, also a hair dryer so you could finish getting ready in your room.
The only negative with the room is it is quite small since this is a bonafide old room from when it was built in the 1870's. For one person alone it was fine but not sure I would have liked it so much if I had been there with my husband. The walls are also quite thin and I had to call ask them to turn down the hotel radio they play in the restaurant. They were always acommodating. If you hear music and it's bugging you, that is where it is coming from.
In good weather, there is also a balcony outside the room which would really be nice and give you more space. But is was a really cold when I was there so this wasn't apppealing. The bed was ultra comfortable, even the pillows. I always travel with my own pillow but didn't use it because theirs was so good. I only ate one meal there, breakfast which was quite good and good service. There is no elevator but they are happy to help carry your bags up when you get there and down when you leave. The staff was very nice always. There is a lovely room downstairs in the lobby where there is fireplace and it is quite nice to sit around and relax in, talking or reading or checking your email. There is also free internet connection.
The price was really right for this room. I paid $59 before tax as a member of the Mendocino Art Center. I can highly recommend a stay there particularly at the rate I had for the room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room where you can get a full view of the ocean. I had a partial view, with a rooftop dire...

Complementary postings such as this one which indicates that our guest had a wonderful time and was appreciative of our special rates that we offer students and teachers at the Mendocino Art Center. We try and partner with businesses in our village that provide our guests with activities and entertainment of all types. In contrast to this type of room with the shared bath we have spacious Garden Rooms with one king bed or two double beds , fireplace and large en suite bathrooms. Good to know if you are traveling with family or friends.

We booked a luxury Garden Room in January 2012 for a total of $278. I believe these rooms are more expensive in the high season. This was a very large room in a building around the corner from the Main Hotel on quiet Kasten Street. The Garden rooms are surrounded by lovely, lush gardens. Rooms are old-fashioned and Victorian and flowery. I liked the decor because it seems to fit in with the character of lovely Mendocino. We enjoyed being in a self-contained building away from the main hotel. The only drawbacks would be that the walls are rather thin and for the price, I'd like to see an updated bathroom. That said, this is a charming place to stay in the heart of Mendocino within a short walk to the beach and numerous cafes and restaurants. We did not try the hotel restaurant as it seemed a bit formal for us with young children but had a very nice dinner at the Mendocino Cafe on Lansing Street. The aged bathroom and price are downsides, but overall, I forgive them because it is a charming place in the middle of an absolutely charming town. And the views of the ocean and through Redwood forests to get there are worth the trip in themselves!

We arrived in Mendocino with no reservations for the night and hoped that the Mendocino Hotel would have an available room. Dina was working the front desk and found us a cute old fashioned room. The room was small but our stay was so nice; we took a bottle of wine out to the balcony that overlooked the ocean and watched the sun set. My only disappointment was that Dina wasn’t working when we checked out to say good bye! She put a smile on our face upon are arrival and helped in making our stay a most enjoyable trip. Were planning to make the Mendocino Hotel an annual trip; we will be back next year!

When we read these reviews, we are very happy when any of our staff are mentioned in such a flattering way. Our policy is to make all of our guests feel like VIPs and to make return guests out of all who come through our doors. Remember to check out our Garden Suites area of the hotel if you are looking for more spacious accomodations.

I found this hotel to be very quaint, it is in the sleepy town of Mendocino and is perfect if you want to get away from it all. The town itself is quite small but full of character, as is the hotel. The rooms have a heavy Victorian influence, and are not for you if you are easily turned off by loud and flowery designs. However, the room we stayed in had a fireplace which just made the whole experience that much better, since we went during the rainy season. The in-house restaurant was absolutely delicious; portions are quite large, so plan on a big meal. Same Victorian garden style decor with windows that open out to the sea side cliffs. The concierge is quite helpful and if you ask they will assist you in planning any alternate activities, should the rain spoil your original plans. Do not plan on spending too much time in the room, the TV is very small, and there is not much "living space." Overall the service was very good, food excellent, and accommodations more than satisfactory. Perfect for a quiet get away.

Room Tip: Do not book a small bedroom, they run smaller than usual. The room we booked was a luxury garden roo...

The Mendocino Hotel has 25 rooms in the Garden area and they range in sizes. We have some suites with separate bedroom and living areas for those looking for larger accomodations. All TVs in the hotel are in the process of being replaced by flat screens and we hope to have that conversion done by the end of 2012.
