We stayed at the Blackberry Inn for one night. Blackberry is very conveniently located although not really within walking distance of the main part of town. The rooms are laid out such as 'the Bank', 'The Baker, etc, which is really very charming. We were allocated 'Assayer' The young couple who own and run Blackberry were charming and very helpful. the room was fine - a fireplace in the corner, everything worked and catered for. Even to the bottle of wine we were given when we arrived. A useful touch was that there were menus of all the restaurants in the town on display in Reception so you could choose somewhere. The advice of a restaurant given proved to be very good and 'local' in feel. Good value for money. We were made to feel very welcome. Would recommend it and would stay again.

The Blackberry Inn is just outside of Mendocino so not walking distance to local restaurants and bars. But I found this an advantage with being more serene and quiet. Similar to Bed and Breakfast with each room being unique but no breakfast provided. We stayed in the "Bank" room which had a nice sitting area and separate tub and shower. There is a partial ocean view from the property but realize that you are on the opposite side of the highway. It was a good value compared to places in town. There was a wood burning fireplace with wood already to go. We had a fire the first night there. A great place to stay unless you have to be in middle of town.

Room Tip: Not worth paying for ocean view room in my opinion. There is a common sitting area to get a view.

This motel was much nicer than i anticipated. We stayed there 3 nights. The first night was the best. Room was immaculate, treats on the pillow... wonderful. The second night no treats on the pillow... the rest the same. The third night had coffee pot, dirty, sitting in the sink and no towels... nor treats on the pillows.

All in all a wonderful and peaceful stay in a quiet community. I loved the Mendocino area.

Stayed here for 2 nights in late August 2011 - booked and stayed in Storybook cottage. Quite expensive, 300 USD per night, but all properties in Mendocino are quite expensive. Two bedroom house at the end of dirt road in the middle of the forest some 1.5 miles from Blackberry Inn office. So, you have your own cottage and your own peace of mind. Arrived at 2pm, as owner send me e-mail saying that early check-in will be possible (usually check in is at 3pm) - despite e-mail had some problems, as office lady was not aware of the e-mail. Property is cottage, with 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, lovely equipped kitchen and living room with real fireplace and cosy day-bed. You also get welcome fruit basket with cookies, a nice gesture. All was in working order, but we wish that housekeeping would devote more attention to cleaning duties, as spider webs were visible all over the place... and place has some odour, and we had to open several windows right away. Other than that, there is no internet and no mobile coverage, which is rather nice for a change...

The Blackberry Inn is a very charming place to stay and considering what it costs to stay in Mendocino, is extremely reasonably priced. The ocean view was nice as was the fireplace. The room itself was quite comfortable although some of the decor and amenities a bit dated. However, the breakfast breads and brownies were a very welcome treat.

Perhaps the owners have read the reviews and changed a bit as we found the staff to be quite friendly and helpful. While I would recommend the Blackberry Inn, I would suggest that if you are looking for lower rates, as others have mentioned, head north to Fort Bragg.
Actually, given the quality of the Inn, the rates are not bad even for a area less expensive than Mendocino.

The other good thing was the free wireless Internet connection which worked well, although I couldn't get a cell phone signal at the hotel.

One tip for the Mendocino area, be careful if you are like us and pay for just about everything on a credit card. We were quite surprised at how many of the restaurants in the area are "cash only." It will behoove you to check to be sure your desired eatery takes a credit card, otherwise you better stop at the ATM first.

Room Tip: Very nice place to stay
